When I first requested this book I didn't know what to expect because I'd never heard of the author before and looking at the summary the book reminded me of the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. Thankfully, despite that fact What's a Witch To Do was much better than I expected. There was nothing that I didn't like about the book. I absolutely loved the plot. Finally someone has written a funny, witchy, paranormal mystery novel with a romantic twist that actually doesn't rely on old, overused clichés. From the first page of the of What's a Witch To Do I was hooked and I read the book all in one shot it was that darn good folks. Mona, the high priestess of the coven in Goodnight, Virginia was a lovely heroine and one that varies from the stereotypical norm. Instead of the buxom supermodel figure that is often presented in this type of read. Instead we have a plus size heroine who is witty, charming and strong and completely lovable despite how hard some people put her down. The rest of the cast of characters is just as eclectic as Mona. Young and old the book is full of vibrancy when it comes to the population of Goodnight. They're wacky and I absolutely loved them as their craziness helped push the book along. The overall plot was also very good and the mystery aspect of the book was very well thought out and I kept me guessing. I was really surprised and pleased to find that the author put to much work into writing the mystery into the story because I've found that this genre can be pretty light on the actual mystery factor but there was enough twists and turns to keep me interested until the very end. Plus the romance in the book was just what I wanted. It wasn't the main focus of the book but neither was it swept to the wayside. It was just perfect. Overall, I loved this book and ever since I finished it I've been recommending it to friends left and right. I hope this isn't the last we'll see of Mona and the witches coven in Goodnight and that Jennifer Harlow turns this into a series. Until then I'll just have to start reading her other series. I would recommend this book to everyone who is a fan of the paranormal romance and mystery novels that are set in a small town and love a quirky mixture of characters. Especially if you want to laugh your butt off. *I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my free and honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed herein are 100% my own.

I just happened to stumble upon this book and im glad that i did. I won't spoil the plot but trust me when I say....You have to read it. The characters are great and the mystery is good. I did figure out who was responsible early, but I didn't mind. I still enjoyed it.

I have read many supernatural mysteries since it is my favorite quick and light read genre but this is my favorite. The characters are likeable and believable. The plot is also realistic but with enough twists and turns to keep a die hard mystery fan like myself waiting until the very end for the "who dunnit".

Loved this book. Hope there is a sequel/s. Great story of witches, werewolves, romance, mystery and just plain making it through another day. Highly recommend.

The first volume in Harlow's Midnight Magic series is a breezy, fun tale filled with quirky characters. Mona is an engaging protagonist and narrator and -- unlike so many other paranormal characters -- she does not run around in skin tight leather kicking butt; instead, she is slightly overweight, nearing middle age, and surrogate mother to two rambunctious nieces. Adam the werewolf is a great match for her. Aside from a few minor formatting errors, my only complaint is that the story slows considerably about three quarters of the way through. I had figured out the identity of the villain by then, and kept waiting for Mona to catch up and figure it out, too. Nonetheless, "What's a Witch To Do" is an engaging paranormal romance/mystery. Recommended to fans of Juliet Blackwell, Madelyn Alt, and Molly MacCrae. -- lyradora

An adult cozy mystery paranormal romance with a large dose of cursing--all of which are fine with me, I received this book received as part of a Malice Domestic giveaway. Others have written detailed reviews of the setting and plot, so I will touch on the writing aspects rather than the story. The writing was generally clean and used the present tense, which (to my pleasant surprise) Harlow pulled off well. Without providing spoilers, I thought the paranormal elements were well done, but not overdone. I particularly enjoyed the current-day references, which I suppose over time will tend to date the book. The mystery element was the weakest aspect. In the cozy fashion of having a short list of possible evildoers, I would have preferred having a more difficult time figuring out the villain. That said, overall it was an enjoyable, well-written read.

My Thoughts – 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I really liked it!!! ***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! I bought this in 2013! The cover is definitely intriguing and what drew me to the book because it had a beautiful wolf on the cover! This is the first book in the series and also my first time reading Jennifer Harlow’s work. This is definitely an adult book. I really liked Mona, but I think she is a bit OCD with the lists. She has good reason though because I’d need lists to remember everything she has to do too. It is like she takes care of everyone and no one looks after her until Adam. I really love Adam though he was definitely an enigma with his personality changes. You understand at the end though. I really enjoyed this world and can’t wait to learn more about it! I recommend to any paranormal fan who wants a variety like witches, werewolves, vampires, demons, and more! Can’t wait to check out book 2!!!

Let’s talk about how cool this book is! First, it’s not only a mystery, BUT it’s got some romance, and some fantasy/paranormal- which to me is just awesome! Plus I absolutely LOVE that this main character is perfectly flawed-which makes her even more awesome. There’s so many good things about this book to talk about, a HAWT piece or two, a very busy witch, two hilarious little girls, and the HILARIOUS crazy Auntie Sara!  I knew when I saw this on goodreads, it sounded interesting, and I when the tour came up, I was hesitant, but I decided to go for it. I AM SO GLAD I DID! I know I’m normally all about the crazy things, but this little domestic ramp was perfect!  It also reminds you that sometimes things could be worse…. Mona reminds me of myself in the fact that she actually calls herself fat, except her self esteem is lower than mine. However, I am SO glad, that though she may not think she is pretty, she values herself and she knows she’s worth something. Not only to those two beautiful little girls who rely on her now, that she’s inherited them from her crazy sister, but the community and the other witches of her coven, and even her crazy Aunt, who lives next door. She has a butt load of cousins- again like me-and her Aunt never lets a single thing escape her sight- again I have one of those too- and their relationships are just plain funny. I think the reason I loved Mona so much was because even when she doubted herself, she would stop and try to think about others and how it effected them. I should wish we all have more friends like Mona.  Adam is my dream dude! Seriously!! First, he’s a werewolf- I really want one of these! He’s HAWT! He’s sweet- but sometimes moody. He cooks, he cleans, he’s VERY handy, he has a smile to die for, and even most important, he treats Sophie and Cora like princesses and the most important people on Earth! Those two little girls needed him and he was a little miracle! He’s got some serious issues to deal with, poor guy. I had a feeling at the beginning of the book, and I had a part of that feeling right, but I was not expecting the fall out. :/ It gets complicated, but what relationship isn’t.    The secondary characters are phenomenal. Sophie and Cora are Mona’s two nieces, who are precious, and infuriating all at the same time- typical children. Her Auntie Sara has made me giggle like you wouldn’t believe, probably because she reminds me of my own family SOOOO much! Mona’s sister Debbie, her friend Clay, her friend Tamara, the other witches in the coven. There are so many wonderful people in here! Trust me, you will not be lacking!  The mystery part is woven just perfect. You think it’s one person, then another person, then another, and trust me, you will NOT guess who it really is. I was pretty devastated. UGH! The writing is absolutely amazing. I will forever be a fan, and now I will have lots to catch up on to read her other works. The to do lists are so funny- I mean, her to-do lists say things like ~ be subject to hours of tourture in the name of beauty  and ~Operation: Hoochie House…  it’s even a chapter title! How do you not laugh at this! And it’s even funnier in context! I can’t say how much I enjoyed this book and If you haven’t figured out I loved it… then I dunno what else to say to you!  I hope you guys all check this new series out! a MAGICALLY PHENOMENAL 5 PAWS!!!
