Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 3-5-- A well-organized dictionary of the rainforest and its inhabitants. An extensive introduction provides some background information, followed by brief descriptions of a select list of plants and animals. A map outlining the world's rainforests is provided. The climate is discussed, as are the three layers that make up its unique structure: the floor or understory, the canopy, and the emergent forest. The people who reside in these areas are also mentioned. Simple green-ink line drawings of some of the plants and animals break up the text. An extensive bibliography includes Theodore Rowland-Entwistle's Jungles and Rainforests (Silver Burdett, 1987), which is an excellent book on the subject with full-color photographs as well as solid information. --Zenata W. Pierre, Portland Public Schools, OR
