About the Author

This true story is based on his real-life experiences growing up in rural South Africa. Erich was born in the Zulu Kingdom of Natal. He went to primary school near the Drakensberg Mountains where the British fought the Zulu Warriors in 1897. He completed his high school years in the Orange Free State home of the British concentration camps and graveyards of the Anglo Boer War of 1899. He is the second born son of a former National Intelligence Services agent (similar to the US CIA and British MI5) who served the apartheid government in 1979 to 1983. He survived a terrorist bombing in a small shopping centre (mall) in 1985. He became a school drop-out and runaway wearing the flag of 'the enemy' on his leather jacket. He was asked to leave one of the top state schools in South Africa; they refer to themselves today as a 'brand' and the 'best rugby school in the world'. He became a successful track athlete ten years after he had his last cigarette. Erich is a Masters graduate in Educational Leadership and Management. He is currently working as a teacher in the United Kingdom and is married to Maryke, an occupational therapist.
