This book was a rather interesting book to read. In this story Em a fourteen year old faces a depressing mother, a alcoholic father, and a abusive sister. Em lives a hard life as a teenager. Em is like the adult in the house, more then anyone else. Em's mother dies in the beginning leaving Pamela, Em, and their dad together. Shortly after, Pamela dies too and and Em is alone to fend for herself. She has to learn how to live her life without her crazy family. You think it would be easy but Em finds it difficult and unsure of what to do.I don't feel this book could have gotten any better. I guess if you wanted to make it a little more interesting, the characters could have done a little more to make it more interesting. In conclusion, I enjoyed reading this book very much! This is a great book for everyone.

When She Was Good wasn't like many other books I've read. Em goes through pretty hard stuff. Her Dad is an alcoholic. Her Mom is weak, pathetic, sick, and abused by the Dad. This is a pretty good book and I think you should read it.

When She Was Good, By Norma Fox Mazer, Is a story that some people in the world may relate to. The story about a seventeen-year old girl named Em. Em suffered a lot throughout her life, having to deal with her mothers death. Leaving Em and her sister alone in the world with her abusive father who didn't care for them. Her father remaried to another wife and had another family who he now cared for. By doing this he was forcing Em and her sister Pamela to move into the city where Em worked at a veriety of jobs. Em in need to care for twentytwo-year old Pamela who was sick at the time. One day Pamela unexpectantly had a stroke and died. This came to a surprise to Em because she can remember her sister been all big, mad, and healthy, but now she was left alone even worse than how she was before thats when she keeps having flashbacks of her earlier years.Em keeps blaming herself for the deaths of her mother and even more of her sister, she was just wathing her choke and not knowing what to do to save her. At the end...... I realy enjoyed reading this book. It's different from all other books I've read. This story can effect a persons life because you would think that your life is hard, Em lived a hard life and she still never gave up. Even though she didn't know what she was going for she never gave up. This is a reason that this story is different from all others.Em was haunted for years having flashbacks about what she did wrong and what she could have done different to change the outcome of the sitution. Hope you enjoy reading this book and because of all the detail in the story hopefully you can get inside of what some people are suffering around the world. If you can't change anothr persons feautre at least try to change yours.

this book took me a very long time to finish, because I wasn't interested in it. If you are looking for a fast-moving book, I would not suggesst this book. It had a good storyline, and what Em went through was horrible, but ti would have been a much better book if it had been a little bit more interesting.

After reading this book I realized how great my own life really is. The way Em goes through life on the quest of being happy one day is truely intriguing. I highly recommend this book.

Em has been through a whole lot,her whole family dying, but stills seems to be living and breathing. Her sister was a terrible, abusive, and controlling person to Em,but Em calmly rejoiced that she did not have to follow all of Pamela's rules. And that suprised me that she still had sorrow with her sister gone, even when Pamela was the worst to her.So I would throughly suggest reading this and searching in your heart about how "bad" your life is and change the world!

This book, brings on such an amazing charecter, that comes to life. People can so understand this. This author actually takes reality and makes it into a book. No many authors do that. It is the truth in a book. Just turned into a story.

I thought the book was breathtaking. Em unlike her sister is a quiet and pleasant girl. Her sister on the other hand is abusive and pesimistic. I think that people who have abusive relatives can relate to this book. I enjoyed reading it and I hope others who read this book are touched by it as I was.

This has got to be the best book I have ever read! I read this book in only a few days and i am not a big reading person. It kept me very interested as your heart just hurts for poor Em. She struggles through so much that you wish you could just give her a hug. This book will be one of if not the best book you ever read!!

Hi my name is Rachael and I read this book for challenge block at school. As a seventh grader i thought it was quite confusing. i guess, even being in the challange program didn't really help me out here! Em, the main character of this book, learns to cope with all her problems, an abusive sister, who is now dead, an alcoholic father, and no mother. After making her first friend, quickly after, chasing her away, she slowly learns to deal with problems in a responsible maner. Having a sister with epilepsy helps me understand how Em feels. Although it's a different situation, the same feelings of being alone and not having many friends appears in this my sister's situation as well. So i can see how she would feel the way she does. It was an okay book, but i'm sure i would have enjoyed it more if i was older.
