She loved and lost...Will faith give her the courage she needs to love again?

Jacelynn appears to have it all together: a great relationship with her boyfriend Jason who is truly a man after God's own heart, a decent career and the love of family and friends. But when an unwelcome reminder from her past shows up, her previously uncomplicated world is turned upside down. Will she jeopardize what she has with Jason in an attempt to rewrite the mistakes of her past?

They say you never forget your first love, no matter how hard you try. So far, Jacelynn has done a pretty good job of forgetting Taylor, the boy who had her heart first. When Taylor returns several years later as a man requesting a second chance, what's a girl to do...Especially when she already has a new man?

The hidden issues of Jacelynn's heart come to light and she's forced take a hard look in the mirror while making choices that will change her future forever. Will she be able to reconcile who she was then, with who she is in Christ now?

Living and loving in faith isn't always easy, but it's always worth it. That's what happens...

I am not a fan of Christian fiction. I find most of them too preachy and predictable. But, I purchased “When the Real Thing Comes Along” by Faith Simone because I really love her short stories and poems. I think she is gifted with words and ideas, and her passion for writing comes through in her creative works and her blog. So of course, I bought her book in spite of its Christian fiction label and read it and was pleasantly surprised. Although the story is light in story conflict, it more than makes up for this in the emotional “push-pull” of the characters and the strong character development. All three of the main characters have a fully developed background that makes their dialogue, actions and decisions believable. Even when the main character went back and forth (which tested my patience and irritated me at times), I still felt empathy for her. The two fellows in the running for her heart were equally matched and that made it a fair race and added a level of unpredictability (a sure way to keep the reader turning the pages). I liked that the normal trappings of religion did not overpower the story. Faith blended the right amount of religion so that this non-church, non-religious reader was not turned off. It also helped that the writing was strong, the visuals clear and distinct, and the setting a nice backdrop to the story. I have to admit some of the support characters were “vanilla” which is not a bad thing since they are after all bit players. But it also left me feeling that there would not be any spin-off stories, which sometimes comes from that rank. And strange to say since again I don’t like being pelted with religious matters in my fiction reading, but even this non-churched, non-religious reader felt the God relationship was slighted in the narrative of the story. Last comment before I close… Sometimes, good stories are ruined with bad endings. This was not the case with Faith’s book. The ending was fitting for all three of the main characters. Not an easy thing, but she handled the wrap-up well. If you’re looking for a good fiction book to read – Christian or otherwise - this is the book to buy and read. I highly recommend it. You will be pleased.

This was my first book by this author. Jacelynn is caught between two loves, The steady comfortable guy she is with and the ex that shows up in her life years later- you know, the one that she was passionate about. This book deals with choices made, consequences felt, how relationships work. The characters felt real, and their feelings are expressed wonderfully and believable. The frustrations by the main characters are easily relatable to most people. The only concern, and thus the four star rating is that some people might be put off by the colloquialisms used, that while appropriate for this book and the characters in it, may be off-putting for some- but not all- readers. When Jacelynn finally figures out the real thing and makes her choice- you may be surprised. I was given an advance copy of this book for my honest review.
