Sheriff Joseph Harmon thumbed through the wanted posters that he had just received from Richmond. At least the new posters would be a welcome change, for he was sick of seeing the same hard faces sneering down at him. His unruly hand jerks as he struggles to position one more poster on the wall, but his grip loosens, and the poster dives to the floor. As anger takes control of his fragile mind, two scornful eyes glare up at him. The mocking eyes belonged to old Leigh Williams, and no matter how hard he tried, he could not rid his mind of the old woman. She controlled every minute of his life, day and night, even though she was dead.
