“When Trouble Finds You” chronicles the life of Toni Coleman Carter and how she overcame the odds stacked against her from the very beginning of her young life. Toni was just a toddler when her grandmother took over the care of her since her mother and father were still young and did not want the burden of a child at the time. By the time Toni was three-years-old her mother already had another child and was pregnant with twins when she arrived abruptly and took Toni away from the only home she knew and felt safe at. As time went on Toni was rebellious towards her mother. She was defiant most of the time and her mother considered her a troublesome child, never questioning Toni about her outbursts of anger or odd behavior. At a young age she became pregnant and decided to keep the baby. Against everyone's judgment. With the odds stacked against her Toni just felt like giving up. Only by the grace of God and the people who truly loved her, did she pull through and overcame all the odds that could of landed her as just another statistic as a teenage mom. As she said in the beginning of her story "...if you are struggling with adversity yourself, know this: despite what has happened to you, you can make it; it's never too late to create the life you want!' With this being an autobiography, I felt it was little short, yet it was to the point on the major aspects of her life. “When Trouble Finds You” is a read that anyone can benefit from, especially young females. It shows the hardships that a young mother has to go through and it inspires her to want more for herself as well as her child/children. Reviewed by: LeonaR
