“Your heart will pound, you’ll laugh, you’ll feel, and you’ll definitely swoon,” raves Katy Evans. In this captivating novel in Marquita Valentine’s Take the Fall series, a small-town sweetheart takes a chance on the bad boy who’s always been her hottest fantasy.

The last time Piper Ross saw her best friend’s sexy older brother, Jase Simmons, he was being taken away in handcuffs. Seven years later, two things haven’t changed: Piper is still head-over-heels in love with him . . . and Forrestville’s chief of police—Piper’s dad—still hates his guts. So when Piper sees a chance to get close to Jase, she makes her move—literally. As his new roommate, and as the office manager of his tattoo shop, Piper won’t be satisfied until Jase knows that she wants to be his.

The quintessential good girl, Piper is pure temptation for Jase. The only reason he’s always kept his distance is because she’s the last person he’d ever want to hurt. But once he realizes that Piper is ready to take the leap, everything just makes sense. Suddenly Jase feels like a new man—until nasty rumors start swirling and Piper’s heartless father stirs up even more trouble. Now Jase must convince Piper that she wasn’t wrong about him . . . because falling in love never felt so right.

I am fast becoming a HUGE fan of this amazing author. This is book two in the Take the Fall series and I loved it as much as the first one. Piper and Jase are the stars of this story. She's such a pleasant surprise. Her parents are horrible people! Timid and afraid to stick up for herself because of her upbringing but she's a quick learner. I was so proud of her. I adore the way she dresses because she doesn't have to look slutty to look sexy. She's classy with a thing for high, sexy shoes. He's the bad boy and she's the princess. He's never thought he was good enough for her. Especially after doing 7 years in prison. Opposite sides of the track and all that. No matter what he tries, Piper is bound and determined to show him that they belong together. Like book one, this story is real with fantastic characters. I loved seeing Rowan and Seth again. I hope everything works out for Emmet and I can't wait to read book 3. Received a copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed is my own.

Good girl Piper has been raised to do as as she is told. And she knows what is expected of her - go to college, marry a suitable man from the country club set, settle down and basically be a trophy wife. The only problem? Piper has long been in love with her best friend's older brother. Jase is someone her parents would never approve of, having spent the last seven years in prison. But Piper is finally ready to make her feelings known and do what it takes to make Jase see her as more than his little sister's friend. There are obstacles in their way, of course, and watching as these two navigated a new relationship while dealing with outside challenges made for an entertaining read. When We Fall makes good use of two tried and true romance tropes: the girl in love with her best friend's brother, and the good girl/bad boy attraction. In this case, the bad boy also has a good heart (naturally) and a serious soft side when it comes to Piper. Jase was an interesting character and I enjoyed his rough exterior and his gentle, protective side with Piper. What I appreciated most about Piper was that despite being the good girl, she was no shrinking violet. Piper had backbone and was fiercely loyal. She didn't depend on others to rescue her from tough situations but instead used her head and fought to make things right. When We Fall does not have the most original plot, but it was easy to overlook that with the focus on two characters who, despite outward differences, brought out the very best in one another. When We Fall is the second title in the Take the Fall series but can be read as a stand-alone.

Piper had a certain innocence about her. Much as Jase wants her, he can't let it happen. Piper was Jase's sister Rowan's best friend and former roommate. Jase had been in prison and considered himself undesirable by many, especially by Piper's family. I loved the way everything came together. How everything fell into place, even though in some place, even in a complicated way and others seemed so easily accomplished. The characters were great as was the plot and overall story. I highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review

When We Fall is steamy and fast. I didn’t even realize how quick a read it actually was until I looked down at one point and was 2/3 of the way thru :) I really liked Piper and Jase. And I really appreciated that there wasn’t a lot of angst in their relationship. Piper knew from the get go what she wanted and that was Jase. She just had to convince him that he actually is the man that she knows him to be. Jase drags his feet for a bit (and pulled a crap move or two that gave me sympathy pains for Piper) but once he realized they could be together nothing was going to keep them apart. I love how easily they fit together and how much they supported each other. I’m not sure what I missed from Take the Fall but I get the idea that at least part of their lead up might be there. It wasn’t enough to make me confused but I love them so much that I am a little sad that I missed out on any of their romance. Two people with not-so-great starts in life find that together they can be so much more, leading to a wonderful, feel-good read. (Complimentary copy provided in exchange for an honest review)

*ARC received from Random House Loveswept in return for an honest review* I knew from the first line in this book that I was going to love it. Any bad boy so crazy about a good girl that he is putty in her hands can't be that bad. I love how protective Jase is of Piper and I love that she isn't afraid to go after what she wants. This romance is funny and sweet and so, so hot. There are great characters in this story, including Jase's sister and Piper's best friend, Rowan, and her fiance Seth. I haven't read their story yet but I trust it's just as entertaining and romantic as this one. This book is a quick read and a great romance.

While I enjoyed the first book in this series, I was interested in this because of the differences between Piper and Jase and how a relationship between them would play out. Piper Ross is the quintessential princess, born with a silver spoon and privy to the best that life has to offer materially, except for what matters most: loving parents. With a critical and overbearing mother and a father who ignores her, Piper has found her own family in her best friend, Rowan and Rowan's brother Jase. But Piper has been in love with Jase since she was a teen and even his stint in jail does not discourage her feelings. Watching the constant parade of women in his life has her determined to make her move finally and she does so by moving into his house as his roommate and working with him as his office manager. Just out of jail, Jase Simmons is trying to get his life in order without any more drama, which having Piper around him are sure to bring. Not because he doesn't like her, but because he likes her too much but he also knows that Piper is beyond his reach and he can't offer her anything. Piper is from a wealthy family and is a good girl, but a lot more inexperienced than the women he usually gets involved with and worst of all, her father is the police chief and is sure to take issue with his daughter getting involved with an ex-con. Well, none of that matters when Piper finagles her way into his life by working and living with him, making his decision to keep his hands off her even harder. Piper is so sweet, the kind of sweet that can make your teeth ache, so her act of rebellion - moving out of her parents' home - was a welcome one and when coupled with her making a bid for Jase, showed that there was some backbone under all of that buttoned up sweetness. And Jase. His rejection of Piper was really his way of protecting her, misguided as it was and when he finally accepted that she was interested in him for real, he treated her like the princess she really was. On the outside Jase may have all the trappings of a bad boy, but on the inside he had a big heart and his gentleness and softness with Piper was so sweet. He even brought out a whole new side to Piper, who went from mousy and meek to confident. A bad boy who falls hard for his woman is hard to resist and Jase's hardened edges mellowed with Piper in his life. I like that after they got together, they both accepted what was happening between them and didn't focus on their differences but on making what they had work. The only major drama came from Piper's parents and their attempts to control Piper and separate them. WHEN WE FALL was a pleasant read, with just enough angst and drama and two very different people finding common ground in their feelings for each other. I have to say that I liked Rowan here more than in her book. She was very supportive and protective of her best friend and may have been the driving force behind Piper's bold decision to fight for Jase. Favorite Quotes: “Her short pink skirt and white sleeveless top make her look exactly like dessert. Like some kind of erotic Neapolitan sundae. My favorite kind of ice cream. Mostly because I’m a greedy bastard who doesn’t think I should be confined to one of anything.” “Most days, I feel like wallpaper – there for only decoration. There to look pretty and inoffensive.” “At five feet eleven, Rowan has the looks of a supermodel and the mouth of a sailor – two reasons why Seth is attracted to her.” “It’s unfair really, to have a parent so beautiful on the outside while simultaneously hideous on the inside.” “A man who has the face of an angel and kisses like the devil is my man, and not just any man. Jase. The guy I’ve loved since I was fourteen.” “You’re my world Piper, and I made a promise that no one would take that away from me.” “His hard body with its tattoos is a feast for the eyes. I swear he could be his own man candy page on Pinterest.” My Review: This was my first date with Marquita Valentine and I could kick myself for being so slow to notice her before - as it was love at first sight. I was instantly snared and totally invested in her tale before finishing the first page, she definitely has skills and has put them to good use. I was absorbed by the story and resented any interruption while reading this sweet and steamy love story of a good bad boy and a sweet neglected rich girl. Sure, it sounds like it’s been done before – but not like this. The writing was insightful and emotive from a dual point of view – which I highly enjoyed. The love scenes were sensual and deliciously steamy, and the relationship was sweet and satisfying. I adored the characters and enjoyed watching them evolve. I believe I would live happily ever after if I could clear my calendar and only read her work for the rest of my days.

5 star The story has laughs, pain, secrets, and heartbreak. I was pulled right into this story. If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Take the Fall (Take the Fall, #1) This is Piper and Jase’s story. Jase is a bad boy and Piper is a good girl. Jase can’t have Piper. He is too dirty for her. Piper has wanted Jase for a while but he seems to be into a different kind of woman. When Piper leaves home and her parents cut her off she needs not only a place to live but a job. Can Jase hire her and allow her to stay in his spare room without touching her? He wants her bad but has to keep away from her. When they spend time together they have a great time but could it last? What about when Piper goes home? Can Jase have her only to lose her? Piper wants Jase but with him running hot and cold she wonders if they will ever work. Can these two let go of the issues and just be together? It just might be the hotter than either of them ever thought. Will Piper still want Jase if her parents completely cut her off? I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I highly recommend this book.

We met the main characters of this new release in Take The Fall and I knew that they would be an awesome pair and I was not wrong. I totally fell for bad boy, Jase. He is a sweetheart and has it bad for Piper, just as she has it bad for him. I was waiting for the drama and angst often found in stories such as these, but thankfully this book has very little and what there was cleared rather quickly. I Love that! The author crafted two complete opposites in this story that totally work. I love the way they are together and how they have to work with each other to make it work. Their relationship became almost idealistic once they realized it could be, but I loved it! There is plenty of steam and heat between these two! This author is gifted with her storytelling ability and her smooth writing. This book is a rather quick read that is refreshing and enjoyable all the way through. Definitely an author to put on your must read list if you love romances and contemporary fiction!

Piper has loved Jase since she was 14 years old. But circumstances always seemed to keep them apart. Piper comes from a rich, controlling family. Her parents are horrible people. They are emotionally cold towards her. So as a child she was very shy, timid, and had a stutter, which her mother makes fun of. What mother does this? She also has bad case of asthma, which her parents refer to as “her disgusting condition”. While others may have treated her badly, Jase never did. He always made an effort to acknowledge her in school. Jase comes from the other side of the tracks. He was recently paroled for attempted murder, which by the way he did not commit. Piper’s father is the Chief of Police and because he did not like those Simons’ boys he made sure Jase was put in jail. After seven years, Jase is released. When Jase first got out of prison all he was interested in was alcohol, and women. But despite this, part of his heart always belonged to Piper. Jase and Piper were two good people who really cared for each other. They just needed to spend time together to realize it. Jase was so sweet. He went out of his way to learn how to give Piper her inhaler when she needed it, made sure the house was professionally cleaned since dust could set off her asthma and even went to the doctors with Piper to learn how to prevent asthma attack during sex. Towards the end, Piper began to find her voice. She became stronger and more confident. This was a very enjoyable read. This is the second book I have read by this author and I am always pleased at the writing style and storyline. It was well written. The characters are likeable.

The story of Forbidden Love. Piper has always been in love with her best friend's brother. Jace has just gotten out of a seven year stint in prison when Piper makes her move. They have both grew up in different worlds but they both grow so much from this relationship. I really enjoyed these two characters, Jace is a tough guy to begin with, but you soon see his soft inner side. Piper shows so much growth and learning to stand up for self and her parents. Great sexual chemistry between these two. I recommend this friends to lovers story. I received this book from netgalley for an honest review.

Piper is tired of her parents telling her how to dress and how to act. More importantly that she disgusts them because of her illness. She decides to move out and go for what she wants. She just has to find a way to pay for school. And besides, Jase is back which means she can make a move. Jase is trying to put his life back in order after being locked up for seven years. Piper is all too tempting, but a girl like her would never fall for a guy like him. She's like a sister to him. A hot one. This was a very cute and light read, but also very much the good-girl-defies-her-parents-and-falls-for-the-bad-guy type of book. There's not a whole lot of drama in the book and what does pop up is reconciled fairly quickly or pushed to the background to concentrate on the relationship and how they learn to stand up for themselves on their own two feet. This book touches on a very sensitive topic with Piper's job. I would've liked to have learned more about what she did at the shelter. I think that would've helped to get to know her a little better. *ARC kindly provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*

4 stars When We Fall was a heartfelt and emotional read, I enjoyed the storyline and the characters were both likable and very relatable. It had an interesting plot, and the drama was just enough to hold your interest until the end. I loved how honest and open Piper and Jase were with each other, together they were able to get through the obstacles her overbearing ass of a father created for them. I really enjoyed this book, it left me full of happy feels.

I loved Jace and Piper's love story! If you look up bad boy in the dictionary Jace's picture and name are right there for all to see, but what most people don't get is that there are people in his life that he loves more than anything. He would walk over burning coals for them. Piper is one of his people and she has been since she was a little girl. Now she is all grown up and Jace is definitely seeing her differently. Piper has only ever felt love from three people in her life and they are Seth, Rowan and Jace. Sure the love for the most part has been more like siblings until recently when she realized that Jace shared the same romantic feelings for her as she has had for him for quite some time. Jace doesn't see their relationship changing as anything good, but all bad. He feels he has nothing to offer Piper, but a shi*** life with a guy with a shi*** attitude. Piper sees Jace having so much to offer her and won't back down until she gets what she wants. I was given an ARC for an honest review. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

Piper and Jase had such wonderful chemistry and brought the best of each other out all the time. It feels like a love that can last for eternity. I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a book full of passion and a great story.

Piper comes from a controlling family and struggles to find her own way. When her family cuts her off financially she seeks the help of her best friend's brother Jase. Jase gives her a place to stay and work while she finds her footing. As they continue to work and live together they go closer and the attraction grows into something more that neither really expected. Piper's family doesn't approve of her relationship with Jase and try to break them apart. Even with all the obstacles in their way Jase and Piper's love is stronger than ever. I loved this book once I started reading I couldn't put it down until it was finished. I recommend this to any book lover so they can lose themselves in a great love story.

This is a story of a rich girl who is tired of her family putting her down and the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks. Bibi gets cut off financial because she decided to move out on her own. She bumps into Jase, now an ex-con and a business owner. The two of them go full steam ahead with their relationship, doing what is necessary to stay together. It takes them time to acknowledge their true feelings. I loved Bibi's strength and determination to show her family that she can take care of herself. She puts herself through a few humiliating moments with her family and the wealthy life, and she returns to be with Jase. Jase is quite willing to make Bibi his focus. They make a wonderfully strong couple. I look forward Marquita's next book in this series. I had a chance to read this story through Netgalley for an honest review.

My Thoughts: After I read Take the Fall, the first book in the series, there was a snippet of the first chapter of this book in it. I read that little tease and wished that it could be December already so that I could read Jase and Piper's book! Jase and Piper have had an interesting history with him going away to jail for 7 years and her being in love with him since she was 14. She's determined to not let anything get in their way now that he's back, so she works things out so that she can make her way into his life and heart so that he can't ignore her any longer. And it works... the bad boy starts to fall for the good girl. Together they have to make it through some obstacles, but their determination will help them make it through. When We Fall is a sweet and charming story of two people who were meant to be together. I enjoy the depth to this series, the dark past and the future that opens up the curtain for the light. Piper and Jase were amazing together--honest and hot and real. You could feel the emotion leap off the page and your heart went out to them with the things they dealt with in the past, and the difficulties in their present that they overcome. Great second book to the Take the Fall series by Marquita Valentine! My Rating: Very Good
