What People are Saying About This

Kenneth R. Kellner

Once again, Dr. Raskin spans disciplines and provides a wealth of information for women in need and the professionals who care for them. The appendices alone are worth the purchase. Organized around the questions most on a woman's mind, it reads like the author is sitting beside you. As an obstretician-gynecologist, I think it will be a valuable resource and I recommend it to anyone who wishes to provide complete care to women.

Jane Honikman

At last, direct answers to complex questiions, written with the warmth a woman needs to hear.

Nada L. Stotland

This book is full of important information and practical suggestions for the millions of women suffering from anxiety and depression.

Rita Baron-Faust

Valerie Raskin provides the best "prescription" a physician can give: information and insight, laced with empathy, humor, and solid advice. Dr. Raskin's book is must reading for women considering medication for anxiety or depression.

Tracy Thompson

An invaluable resource, When Words Are Not Enough is a book for women who, by seeking an understanding of their illness, win for themselves the power to overcome it. This is the voice of the wise and compassionate older sister we all wish we had -- the really bright one who went to medical school.

Martha Manning

When Words Are Not Enough combines an unusually compassionate approach to women's experiences of depression and anxiety with expert interpretation of the wide array of treatments that can help. Dr. Raskin lets women know that their concerns are valid, shared by many others, and deserving of careful consideration and discussion. As a clinical psychologist, I have great respect for Dr. Raskin's command of the psychiatric research and her ability to integrate it with her significant clinical experience. As a writer, I admire her ability to communicate so much information in such a well-organized and engaging way. But most important, as a depression sufferer, I am grateful to her for a book that I will turn to time after time for my own enlightenment and reassurance. (Martha Manning, Clinical Pyschologist and Author, Undercurrents: A Life Beneath the Surface and Chasing Grace: Reflections of a Catholic Girl Grown Up)

I first heard of this book from a program on 'the People's Pharmacy' radio program several years ago. So much of what the author said spoke to me and wanting to know more I bought the book that same day. After reading this well written and researched volume, my life made so much more sense. It was as if doors were opened and I could now walk into the sunshine to a better understanding of myself and, most importantly, what I could do to help myslf. Since then I have bought this book and given it to several of my friends. All of whom have thanked me for sharing with them the existence of this book which has made such a diference in my life. It was so nice to realize I wasn't crazy afterall. Today I directed another friend to this same book. Although there have been many advancements in the pharmacology, the essential truths within this book have not changed and are as relevant today as they were years ago.
