Overview

Anger and pain brought them together, but their passion might just set them free.

Dimitri wants only one thing: revenge. His stepfather, Hendrix, has caused him nothing but pain and heartache. At last Dimitri can take something—someone—important to Hendrix and make him pay: Jess.

Jess is feisty and strong headed. Her past haunts her and connects her to the dangerously dark Dimitri in an unexpected way. Dimitri keeps his secrets locked deep inside, and Jess is drawn to this broken man like no one before.

With little to cling to besides their haunting pasts, both could have been doomed to lives spent raging against the darkness that holds them prisoner. Instead, it seems that as their pain draws them closer together, it is their desire and combustible passion that will set them free.

Where Darkness Lies is a sizzling romance and the second book in the popular Criminals of the Ocean series.

Why can't I get this for Nook?!!!!  Has Bella Jewel become one of those authors who send a big FU to B & N fans by publishing with Amazon so we can't get Nook compatible versions?!!  I refuse to do business with Amazon and am losing respect for writers who try to force us. Not like there aren't plenty of other authors who do like B & N fans.  I'm not going to run out of good books to read!

Where Darkness Lies continues where Enslaved by the Ocean left off. Dimitri, Hendrix’s stepson, has abducted Jess as part of his against his stepdad whom he admired but left him when he was in need. He intends to use her to gain information on Hendrix’s whereabouts but she gradually became more than a pawn in his quest of vengeance. When Enslaved by the Ocean ended with a cliffhanger, I was ticked. I liked Jess and I didn’t really expect that last part. It was an unwelcomed plot twist but I couldn’t deny that I was looking forward to what would happen between her and Dimitri. The book didn’t live up to my expectations though. Jess was still cool in this book. She was feisty and was better than Indigo when she was captured. And throughout the book, she didn’t do something annoying enough to make me do a facepalm. And that was a good thing. But like Indigo, the first thing she noticed about her abductor was how attractive he was.  Let us not forget that Dimitri was six feet tall with a body of a fighter. He had dark-hair and blue eyes. Yes, he was handsome but he also looked frightening. If I were in Jess’s shoes, I would probably take note on how easy it would be for this guy to break my neck and not on how he could make me pregnant just by gazing at me. As the story progressed, my emotional attachment for Jess wavered when she started to fall in love with Dimitri. She somehow forgot the fact that Dimitri had kidnapped her with the way she thought about him.  With Dimitri, I expected more anger, more hatred from him considering that he had been plotting his vengeance for a decade. But no, he was too kind for me. Not that I hated it, but I just wanted a little more though. In the end, I was happy that Jess and Dimitri found each other. After what they’d been through, they needed someone who could understand each other. Copy received via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

4 steamy, fast-paced, exciting stars! All hands hoay! It's time to escape with some pretty sexy and dirty talking pirates! Where Darkness Lies, by Bella Jewel, was such an exciting reading escape! When I found this series on Goodreads, I was really excited! I love watching pirate movies, but I never really read a book with pirates as the main characters. A while ago I bought Enslaved by the Ocean, which is the first book in the Criminal of the Ocean series. I had it on my TBR list for so long!!!! I'm so happy that I finally got the chance to read this series back-to-back. I really loved Enslaved by the Ocean and I could not wait to start reading Where Darkness Lies after the first book left us with a big cliffhanger.  I usually do a little recap of the story at this point of my review, but I won't get into details about what happens in this book.  The synopsis gives you a pretty good idea about the story without giving anything away. I highly recommend reading Enslaved by the Ocean before reading Where Darkness Lies. The stories connect well, and if you skip the first book you are seriously missing out on a fantastic read! I really love the characters in this series. They all bring their little touch of awesomeness to the story. Jess and Dimitri were an awesome couple to follow and the sexual tension between them was WOAH!!!! Jess is a tough cookie and she drove Dimitri nuts!!! I was cheering for her from the very beginning. Dimitri acted like a jerk at the beginning of the book, but the more he got to know Jess, the more I got to see the real Dimitri. I loved how they opened up about their past. They both have a dark past that they wish they could forget. They have emotional scars that only started healing when they started spending time together. The more time they shared together, the less Dimitri was thinking about his revenge towards his stepfather and more about Jess and the feelings he had for her. This book had a good balance of romance, steamy scenes, funny and exciting moments. It kept me turning the pages until early morning. I have no clue when the next book will be out, but I can't freakin' wait! It will be Drake's story and I really like him! I give, Where Darkeness Lies, by Bella Jewel 4 steamy, fast-paced, exciting stars!

In his quest for revenge Dimitri kidnaps someone close to his step-father, Hindrix. Jess has been working the last two years on Hindrix’s ship after he rescues her, trying to find out who she really is. When taken she puts up a fight. Soon Dimitri and Jess realize how much they have in common and their relationship grows. Sexy, sweet and enthralling. I enjoyed the romance as well as the story surrounding it. An excellent read.

THANK GOD! I was waiting this book sooo long that I needed to reread first part. But that waiting was worth. This book was amazing! Well I couldn’t expect any less. We know that Bella is amazing author so I’m not surprised that I want third pirate’s book ¿ I loved sassy girl Jessica! When she was taken like collateral from Hendrix ship she was acting so brave. I really was admiring her courage! Dimi in this book is…..damaged beauty. He has so much grudge in his heart! But sassy redhead Jessi changed him. Don’t think that this is a simple love story! No, it isn’t. In this book we will see Jessi’s past hunting her and only Dimi can save her. 5 PIRATES STARS!
