This may be the book I liked the best so far in this series. I felt Maisie and Cord's pain as I went through all their emotional up and downs. Their willingness to support each other and struggle for what they believed in was so very admirable. That's the kind of people I like. I will never get tired of reading this series.

There's one thing that is guaranteed with each book I've read that Ms Bramseth has written, I feel. For the story, the characters, and in this case the terrible desperation of men fighting a tragic war...said in their own words...an overwhelming sadness can be deeply felt for the loss suffered. As Cord and Maisie grow closer, there are forces working in the background which will create great pain for them and so many others...there are twists and turns that are sure to keep you hooked. And just when you think the couple have found their HEA, the author creates the unexpected. There is never a time during the story where you should think you know what will happen, you'd be surprised at the conflict that creeps in. And the surprise of the story was Clay...his façade is his armor towards the outside world. His story is sure to be an eye opener. I'm always looking forward to the next book in the series, I know I won't be disappointed. This ARC book was complimentary, provided by author. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

What a powerful story about love, commitment and fighting for your passion in life. Maisie is the park superintendent at Perryville, the site of a historic battle during the Civil War and when a piece of land near the park that should be kept sacred is threatened by developers and her own employer, the State, she goes to war. This puts her in Cord’s path as he works to help the property owner get the best deal. What neither expects is to find that spark as they are at odds on this issue. Or are they? There are many twists and turns in this saga to preserve this piece of history. At the same time, an intense romance grows but with many challenges from all sides, can it last? I love this cast of characters in Bourbonland. As we experience Maisie and Cord’s story, we connect with this extended family getting updates on other characters and seeing more of the drama several are still to face. Always a fabulous escape.

Where the Fire is Hottest by Jennifer Bramseth Bourbonland #3 What do you do when the place you love is going to be changed in a way that will damage/destroy its historical landscape? What would you be willing to do to prevent big business and government from getting their way? What would you be willing to personally sacrifice for the benefit of generations to come? When Maisie Chaplin, park superintendent, began her zealous battle for the state park in Perryville to not lose land to developers she had no idea she could potentially lose her job, her professional standing or possibly the man that might be “the one” – and yet – it was a battle for a battleground she was sure must be worth it. Cord Bilton is the lawyer representing the owner of the land the state wants to build on. His interest has to be that of his client’s even if it might impact his potential relationship with Maisie. What is he to do? Is there a way for Cord to win not only his case but also the heart of Maisie? This book has an intricately developed plot that deals with history, preservation of historical sites, relationships, determining what is truly important and it also provides a romance that was delightful to read. I was rooting for Maisie and Cord as they moved forward in their professional and personal lives. It brought in characters from previous books and caught us up with some of them. Have enjoyed every book in this series and this book was a great addition. That said…I am so ready for Clay and Coraleigh to get together and yet I have a feeling that their story will be eked out to us through the novellas and novels of this series – I fear they will not get their HEA until the very last book. Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review 5 Stars

I guess it's fitting that Cord and Maisie are part of the Bourbonland series. A place where the liquor flows freely, history runs deep and emotions run high. Where the women are as passionate as the men are alpha and the pheromone level is always on high. When you have two strong characters, it's not an easy feat to keep them from overpowering each other or the story, yet Ms. Bramseth manages to steer clear of that pitfall. Maisie is a woman who is not afraid to fight for her beliefs and Cord is a man with a lust for battle and a thirst for doing what's right. Not only do they butt heads, they set off sparks. A Jennifer Bramseth character is a prime example of how to live one's truth. Out loud and super proud, at the head of the crowd.
