Whispered Visions

Beginning their independent operations in the late '70s, married new age visionaries Kat Epple and Bob Stohl were Emerald Web, a duo who produced and self-released numerous albums of spacy, meditative electronic music, primarily on cassette. Before Stohl's tragic death by drowning in 1990 (and the subsequent end of the band), Emerald Web would record more than ten independent albums, score internationally recognized soundtracks, and tour frequently, often doing gigs in planetariums with their cosmos-friendly sounds made with various synthesizers, human voice, flutes, and the electronic woodwind instrument known as the Lyricon. Released in 1980, Whispered Visions was the second fully realized Emerald Web album, offering a more rudimentary version of their sound, which would evolve and crystallize somewhat over the next decade. As it stands, eerie thriller soundtrack-styled jams like "Ice Caves" or stargazing flights of fancy such as "Stargate" find the duo at a little rougher around the edges but no less exciting early phase of their creative process, pulling the best sounds out of home-recorded synth arpeggios and delay-coated flute ruminations.
