Awesome new author! Hilarious, fun, and sexy novel! Whistlin' Dixie is the first in a series of seven books in the Tempered Steel series, set in small town of Grafton, IL It's an entertaining read filled with quirky characters and in-your-face attitude. Adams gives the reader a glimpse into what's in store in the next books and keeps it fun by also including a recipe in the back for one of the dishes mentioned in the book. Look for more great reading from this debut author.

Mac Coalson wanted to help the people in his hometown who lost their homes in a flood so he rebuilds them with his construction company. But when vandals ruin many of the houses he wants to catch the culprits. When he sees some teens trespassing on one of his sites he's sure they are the ones vandalizing the houses and wants to press charges. Dixie Harris is called to the police station because her brother is one of the trespassers. She is a tiny woman with a big mouth who doesn't hesitate to tell Mac what she thinks of him. When Mac and Dixie work together to find out who's vandalizing the houses, sparks fly between them. I loved Dixie and her never-back-down attitude. People were constantly surprised to hear what came out of the mouth of such a small woman. I couldn't help but like Mac. He did want a relationship and tried so hard to keep his distance from Dixie but he failed. This was an enjoyable humorous, romantic suspense with great characters. Unfortunately, it had lots of typing errors and generally the editing was not good. I even had trouble thinking of the word that was suppose to be there sometimes. I did love the cover and wanted to pick it up right away.

Good story but far too many editing errors – Whistlin’ Dixie centers around a family owned construction company which was trying to rebuild their little town which suffered severe damage when the Mississippi flooded its banks. The Coalson Construction, headed by Mac Coalson, was trying to rebuild the homes for those lost in the flood when suddenly two things happened. First, vandalism was wrecking all the new construction. The second was in the form of a 5’spitfire who came to her brother’s defense when accused of the vandalism and was not afraid to challenge the sexy 6’Mac after he wanted her brother jailed for the vandalism. Note: The story contains descriptive sexual encounters and sexual innuendo. There are many places which are funny and laugh out loud, even so that cannot save it from all the editing errors. If not for the errors I would have given it a higher rating. There were so many errors it makes one wonder if the manuscript was even edited before publishing. If it was, the editor needs to find another job. It is a shame when numerous errors distract the reader making it less enjoyable. I plan to check to see if B&N has the sequel and if so, the price as I will not pay much based on the editing errors of the first book.

The story of Mac and Dixie. Mac is the oldest brother and boss of his 7 brothers (of those that are home) at their construction company. Dixie is the new kindergarten teacher in town. The two meet when Dixie's brother Jamie is hauled into the police station along with several other kids for suspected vandalism on the properties that Mac's company is rebuilding after the town flooded. Mac is quite an arrogant jerk and won't listen to reason, determined to see all the boys charged with the crime. Dixie first pleads and then her temper gets the best of her (something that happens often between the two of them). Although wildly attracted to each other, they are at a standstill due to the situation. When Dixie comes up with a plan to get Mac to hire Jamie as a means to show he did not do the crime, the two wind up in a kiss. Dixie later sees something that she misconstrues, and they wind up not talking for quite a while. When she is injured, her life in danger, Mac drops his stubbornness after realizing his feelings for her. But all is not smooth sailing from here, as the vandal upgrades to dangerous actions. I really enjoyed this short story. The feelings seemed to happen immediately, but I liked the way it wasn't all wine and roses. I had quite a good laugh at times, especially when Dixie hits Mac - loved that! A good start to the series, I had already read book 2 before this one! Can't wait to read about more brothers, and hope that will eventually include Dixie's brother Jamie! Romance Readers received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I received a copy of 'Whistlin' Dixie' in exchange for my honest review. As this is Maggie's debut book, I was unsure what to expect... but after reading the blurb & looking at the cover I was excited to read more of what was inside. 'Whistlin' Dixie' is book 1 in the "Tempered Steel" series, I can't wait for more. Straight away you got to meet both Mac & Dixie, both with stubborn, spit fire type personalities.. so within the first chapter your being pulled into a chemistry that both are fighting against. It was like a breathe of fresh air, to read about people not falling or knowing they are falling in love straight away & although generally opposites attract, these 2 are so alike it wasn't funny (personallity wise). Whilst reading Maggie's words had me laughing, crying, getting reading to hit something... although Dixie isn't known for being a spit-fire for no reason.... I was glued to the pages.

Mac Coalson is a man determined to bring his hometown back to life after massive flooding. He isn't about to let anyone get in his way. Not even Dixie Harris--the petite new Kindergarten teacher. When they meet, sparks fly. They are both hard-headed, obstinate, quick tempered, and push each others buttons. Mac and his brothers are one of several construction companies rebuilding Grafton. However, Coalson Construction is the only one being targeted by vandals. As the situation escalates, they tend to be one step behind the culprits. Whistlin' Dixie is a mystery with twists and red herrings. It keeps you guessing. It is also a romance. I wanted to shake both Mac and Dixie and tell them to quit jumping to conclusions and stop fighting their attraction. One minute they were hot for each other, the next they were angry. Their romance was a real rollercoaster ride. Never boring!  The supporting characters were interesting. I loved the way Ginny took no crap from her boys and could put them in their place. The family dynamics were believable and I enjoyed their interactions.  My only complaint was I would have liked a little more character development. More background information to flesh out the story. That is my opinion and others may not feel that way. I enjoyed the story and recommend reading it. It is not a standalone. The story continues in Leather and Lace where the romance centers on Sam Coalson and Angel Devereaux and the mystery continues. 4.5 Stars

Reviewed by Brenda Casto for Readers' Favorite Maggie Adams provides romance with depth, feeling and plenty of real emotion in Whistlin' Dixie. Mac Coalson is using his construction company to help rebuild his hometown, but it seems that someone is out to sabotage his work, so when the local sheriff gives him a call saying he has caught the vandals, well, Mac is ready to wring some necks. Turns out one of the culprits is the brother of the new kindergarten teacher, Dixie Harris, and boy is she spitting mad because she knows her brother is innocent, but can she convince Mac?  Dixie Harris is a spitfire of a character who is quick to anger but also has a wonderful, caring side. Mac Coalson is a no-nonsense guy and the last thing he is looking for is love. The chemistry between the pair is electric, which makes for a page turning read! Just when I thought the pair would get together, author Maggie Adams throws in a twist that left me thinking it could all be over. The author touches on the insecurities that Dixie and Mac have, making the romance seem very real. Their thoughts and feelings literally jump from the pages, which allowed me to feel like I was part of the story instead of just reading it. Whistlin' Dixie is truly a romance with substance and emotion. Along with a pulse pounding romance, there is also the mystery of who could be sabotaging the new construction in town. As the romance escalates so does the vandalism, creating a sense of tension that kept me wondering what might happen next. Ms. Adams creates a small town feel and throws in a dose of southern charm which brings the setting to life, not to mention several secondary characters including several of Mac's brothers. Easy to like characters, humor, mystery, romantic sizzle, and a satisfying ending make Whistlin' Dixie a must-read for romance lovers. I can't wait to read the next book in the Tempered Steele series.

Anyone who is familiar with Bella Andre series would know how much fun and interesting it is to read the love stories of all the siblings in a family. When the family is huge with a lot of siblings, the stories become even more fun. And that is exactly what Maggie Adams has brought into her books. Whistlin' Dixie is the first in the series of love stories of siblings. Each story will describe how each of the sibling found love in their lives. As the series proceeds, we might also come across how the "Happily ever after" story from the previous versions of the series are happening. There are four brothers in Coalsen family and this story is about the eldest one, Mackenzie Coalsen aka Mac and how he finds love in the fiery Dixie. Although a bit typical, the story is fun to read and interesting to go about. A brief background is also given about all the other brothers so that we can anticipate in our own minds how the next part of the series is going to be. Although I was not very optimistic about how the book would be before taking it, now I will definitely go for the next part of the series. I am super curious as to how the love story of Mac and Dixie goes ahead and who finds their next love among the other siblings.
