Publishers Weekly
Practical, not too fussy, unexpectedly sexy-28-year-old Trina Elder is as low maintenance as white bikini panties. Her plain Jane-ness never bothered her before, but when she discovers that Rick, her sexy nerd of a boyfriend, is cheating on her, she's thrown for a loop. What's a young, well-adjusted copywriter to do? Trina mopes, has meaningless-then slightly more meaningful-sex and contracts genital warts. She also spends time with her suburban family, her wacky actress best friend and her funny gay co-worker at the Coddled Cook, a Williams Sonoma-like operation. There are occasional flashes of originality, as when Trina says of a back-handed compliment, "It's like the opposite of a cloud with a silver lining. It's a fuzzy stuffed animal with a razor shoved inside," but the novel's humor is generally of the low-key variety. James-Enger sympathetically captures Trina's workaday doldrums, shines a realistic light on family problems and doesn't settle for superficial solutions to romantic dilemmas. Readers looking for an escape from dull jobs and everyday worries may find it all a little too familiar, but it's the very ordinariness of the story that appeals. Agent, Laurie Harper. (Nov.) Meet the Author

Hi there and thanks for stopping by! What should you know about me? As a reader, you'll want to know that I write contemporary women's fiction--books about women today, the problems they face, and how they overcome them. I've always been fascinated by relationships, and love writing about them. My newest novel, The Honesty Index, explores the lives of two former "BFF" who are now in their mid-30s and whose lives have grown apart--yet who still need each other more than ever before. My earlier two books, Did you Get the Vibe?, and White Bikini Panties, are available through Kindle. They're considered "chick lit" and are fun, engaging reads. And I like my characters to figure out how to solve their own problems--just like in "real life."

I also write nonfiction. As a full-time self-employed freelance writer for 15+ years, several of my books show freelancers how they can develop and maintain successful careers, whether they're new to the business or are more seasoned. (Yeah, that's code for "older.") My latest book, Writer for Hire: 101 Secrets to Freelance Success, will help you make money as a freelance writer. (And if you want to become a ghostwriter like I am, check out Goodbye Byline, Hello Big Bucks: The Writer's Guide to Making Money Ghostwriting and Coauthoring Books.) In my day job, I'm a ghostwriter/coauthor for health, fitness, and nutrition professionals, so I get paid to accumulate useless facts that may or may not come in handy if I ever get on Jeopardy.

What else should you know? I'm the mom of two little kids who struggles to make time to write fiction; I've lived in the Chicago suburbs (Downers Grove) for fourteen years; and like most women, I'm constantly trying to find that work/life balance. Most days I fail but am having a great time regardless. Thanks for checking out my page, and I hope you enjoy my work!

I liked her style of writing and enjoyed the book for the most part. I felt unsastified with the ending. Not that it was a BAD ending, I just would have liked Trina to make up her mind about all the 'stuff' going on in her life.

Katrina `Trina¿ Elder is a very low maintenance type of person who has a ¿ok¿ job at the Coddled Cook (sounds a lot like the Pampered Chef), wears no nonsense white panties and has a sexy nerd of a boyfriend that she seems to be in a comfortable relationship with. That is until she finds said boyfriend on the couch lip locked with another woman. Well for starters she dumps him, then lets her best friend talk her into changing her underwear to hot sexy sets and to take up dating again. Trina is the middle child and the one that is always thought to be the low maintenance one in her family also. Her older sister the successful lawyer is trying to get pregnant (not working so well) and her beautiful sister is still in college and seems to be the apple of her mothers eye. I found myself drawn into this story. This is a woman who doesn¿t necessarily have the dream job she doesn¿t get all the romance she wants. You will feel for Trina as you go through her struggle to find the right guy and fit in both at work and with her family. I really enjoyed this book.

The thing I like best about Kelly James-Enger as an author is her absolute candor and lack of pretense. She¿s unusually honest and real in her writing. The love relationships in this book, as well as the family and friend relationships, are very flawed and complicated, as in real life. Reading Kelly James-Enger¿s books is like talking to a close friend. She does a great job with dialog, and the characters are well developed and easy to relate to. She¿s also not afraid to tackle tough subjects like bulimia and infertility, and she portrays the emotions accurately and realistically. I would definitely recommend White Bikini Panties, as well as her first novel, Did You Get the Vibe. I look forward to reading the next one.

We all need a friend like Trina in our lives. The opposite of today's Hollywood role models and reality TV babes, Trina is an honest, thoughtful, and riotous female. Kelly James-Enger captured the best and worst of a 20-something Chicago girl, going through relationship hell, coping with family, and making sense of the dilmema faced by millions who have to work but don't love their job. Along the way, James-Enger shows us the meaning of friendship and importance of family, while telling a story so good you keep reading another chapter, and wanting more.
