White Gold (Dan Taylor, #1) by Rachel Amphlett

Praise for White Gold

‘The style is reflective of the thrillers of Robert Ludlum... a heart-pumping page-turning thriller.’ Goodreads

A haunted man. A murdered friend. A deadly enemy.

Dan Taylor was a bomb disposal expert in the British Army until an IED killed three of his team and left him scarred for life. On the brink of self-destruction, Dan is unable to cope with the nightmares that haunt him.

Until the day an estranged friend leaves a voicemail message for him, moments before he is assassinated in cold blood.

Plunged into a global conspiracy, Dan must unravel the research notes that Peter Edgewater left behind to locate an explosive device that is being smuggled towards London by a secretive organisation hell-bent on protecting its assets – and time is running out.

White Gold is the first book in an action-packed adventure thriller series that fans of Vince Flynn, Robert Ludlum and the Lee Child Jack Reacher series are calling "a blast!”

About the Author

Before emigrating to Australia in 2005, Rachel Amphlett helped run a pub, played lead guitar in bands, worked as a TV and film extra, dabbled in radio as a presenter and freelance producer for the BBC, and worked in publishing as a sub-editor and editorial assistant. After returning to writing, Rachel enjoyed publication success both in Australia and the United Kingdom with her short stories. Her first thriller White Gold was released in 2011, with the Italian foreign rights for the novel being sold to Fanucci Editore's TIMECrime imprint in 2014. In her spare time, she enjoys skiing, horse-riding, playing guitar, reading (of course), and writing (another no-brainer). She also has a great love of films, especially thrillers, rom-com, sci-fi and biopics. She doesn't mind admitting she's scared of horror films. A little slow midway through but then became very action-packed and had a nice conclusion.

I like thrillers that deal with real issues in the modern world. White Gold does not disappoint. It concerns a new alternative power source that purveyors of "dirty coal" will do anything to stop. The opening chapter, set in Iraq is a cracker, and the characters involved reappear throughout the book, each with their own agendas. Dan and Sarah were very easy to like. Amphlett's research sits lightly on the page, but is always authoritative. The plot moves fast, and I found White Gold very easy to read.
