Overview

White Tiger: A Hero's Compulsion by Tamora Pierce, Phil Briones, Timothy Liebe

Roaring out of the pages of Daredevil, the new White Tiger makes a ferocious debut, courtesy of the dynamic scripting of New York Times best-selling fantasy author Tamora Pierce (Trickster's Queen, The Will of the Empress) and masterful penciling of rising star Phil Briones (La Geste des Chevaliers-Dragons, Les Seigneurs d'Agartha). Angela del Toro knows pain: Her uncle - Hector Ayala, the former White Tiger - killed. Her FBI partner, murdered. Her career, ruined. Her mentor, Matt Murdock, jailed. And the hurt is just beginning. The Yakuza's bloodthirsty Sano Orii returns, a genocidal shadow organization appears, and a new-but-old super-powered madman is looking to put the squeeze on White Tiger. Armed with mystical amulets - and finally in costume - White Tiger demands answers! But will she survive long enough to ask the right questions?

This is a great book if you like comics. The pictures are great and the story line is good as well. It ends on a cliff hanger so you want to read more of it.

Love this title. Tamora Pierce and Tim Liebe tell a kickbutt story without pulling punches. Another great thing about this book is it is not a typical superhero story. And the art is AWESOME!

I really enjoyed Pierce and Briones as a team on this book. It really didn't read like just a run of the mill comic book. It was really engaging and fun. The dialogue was funny and the book had had some cool cameos by other superheroes like Spider-Man, Iron Fist, and Daredevil.

As a reader of graphic novels and superhero yarns, I was incredibly excited to get my hands on this new transformation of White Tiger. Angela Del Toro is a fierce, independent woman with sharp wits and a shero's mentality. Sure, she may have started out her life of masked heroism by being kicked off a roof in the Daredevil series, but she fights back with a vengeance. It is rare to find such a strong and capable woman (particularly in Marvel comics) who isn't depowered, beaten, or viewed as a sex object and little else. THIS tiger has claws, and she tears into the superhero scene like nothing else. The story itself is gripping and laced with fabulous dry humor, as well as foreshadowing of the Civil War. Pierce and Liebe have created a phenomenon here. I highly recommend this stunning and social-construct-breaking graphic novel!

This was very disappointing. Tamara Pierce has always been my favorite, but this is truly of comic book quality and only Ms. Pierce's name on the cover links it to her past works.
