I finally got around to reading one of Greg Rucka's early works and I wished I wouldn't have waited so long. Whiteout is a very good piece of fiction that uses Antarctica, or "The Ice", as a character unto itself. With so many different elements going against the protagonist, it was a compelling journey to uncover the guilty and the hidden motives. Steve Lieber's art is exactly what you'd expect from at veteran like him. Classic, solid storytelling. Overall, the only drawback for me seems to be some elements that were added that just seemed to muddy the waters, not propel the story. Still, a very good book.

The best part of this graphic novel is the main character Marshall Carrie Stetko. Having a woman as the law on a base in the remote Antarctic is a great premise. You know that there has to be a murder to take care of, but the fact that it is the first at the South Pole adds to the interest because there is no precedent. I think the movie went wrong with Kate Beckinsale as the lead character. Nothing against her generally, but I think someone like Carlo Gugino would have been a better fit.
