With the publication of Finding Fish, his memoir of a childhood spent in foster homes in and around Cleveland, Antwone Fisher shared with the world his story of perseverance, determination, and courage. And he also showed that within him beat the heart of an artist -- a major factor in his resilience and recovery.
Now with Who Will Cry for the Little Boy?, his first collection of poetry, Antwone Fisher reveals the inner truths that took him from a tumultuous childhood to the man he is today. The powerful poems presented here range from impressions and expressions of Antwone's years growing up to the love that he has gained from the family he made for himself as an adult.
From the title poem -- which is featured prominently in the movie Antwone Fisher -- a plaintive, haunting tribute to a childhood lost to abuse and neglect, to "Azure Indigo," the uplifting and touching poem about his daughters, many readers will find their own feelings and experiences reflected in this lyrical and passionate collection.

If you've seen the movie based on his life you'll know that the author had a rough childhood and experienced abandonment. Isolation is a common theme in his poems, however many also are about love; lost love, unrequited love, wondering if he'll ever find love and a wonderfully written love poem dedicated to his wife. I appreciate that the poems came straight from his heart, but some of them were very simplistic, amateurish (?). He does preface in his introduction that his "poems are usually not what I hope to convey to others, but rather, they are my way of speaking to myself. The words are my cadence combined with my spirit." Overall, it was a decent read; I finished the book in about one hour.
I just watched this movie with my sister & nephew. Thank you so much Antwone for daring to share your life with the world. I have been depressed lately, but not now. I know you believe in God & all He did to help you get through your childhood. I had similar experiences. I'm thankful you shared this with us. Any one out there that feels your circumstances dictated your destiny? Just watch this movie. God & you are in charge, no one else. The actors were more than actors. They became the characters. I know they are changed also.
Praises to Antwone Fisher, his poetry allows the reader to know that faith is a tool not just for the lonely to apply but also for each soul to imagine beyond what can be seen. Go ahead A. Fisher you deserve to be up their with the talented tenth.
This book is a moving tale that everyone can relate with. It gives you a sence of gratitude toward your life and what you have. This is a great book!
Antwone Fisher delights us with his wonderful words. I was so happy to see the poem from his spectacular movie included in this collection. I also appreciate that a man who has endured the kind of pain and heartache that Fisher has is still able to write so beautifully about his own daughters in the poem, Azure Indigo. Just lovely.
