I bought "Whoa, Nelly!" when I had already listened to "Folklore", which wasn't really fair to WN... because "Folklore" is just one of the greatest albums ever, every track's really good and all the tracks fit together perfectly. On her first album, Nelly's still a bit trying and I got the idea the cd hasn't such a balance as its successor. But still - it's a really nice album with swinging rhythms and beautiful songs. "Whoa, Nelly!" is like Nelly's teenage-period, where she's still searching for stability in her music, "Folklore" is her as an adult, making the most amazing music, and "Loose"... well, that's her as a 40 year old with a midlifecrisis. You can't say she isn't growing up....

I Love Nelly Furtado! The first time I heard her I said'' That's Nelly, ( the rapper)?'' But I loved I'm like a Bird, and think most the songs have good beats and lyrics! I hope to see Nelly nominated for best new artist next year at the Grammys.

This is really good. I saw her in concert and she rocked! She is one of the best pop singers out there! She writes all her own songs!

Her music is like none other. Highly recomended by me and all for all ages. You can't find better than this. Her music enspires me. It's like she can read your mind or something. I have totally the same feelings and view as she does. When I listen to her music I go to another place. I just close my eyes and sing along. I know all the words and trust me, by the end of the day, you will too! Best CD ever!!!!!! You have to buy it because you'll absolutly love it!

This young artist has been unfairly characterized as a talented, original newcomer. In fact, she is just another face that uses unneeded vocal theatrics to cover a less than bird-like voice. The song "Like a Bird" could be a beautiful song, if sung by someone that had the vocal capability to give the song it's due. Furtado is relying on her alleged native influences, and attempts to cross over to all genres of music. Such an attempt will only work if the music, and the artist are worthy of such an audience; Furtado doesn't fall into this category.

Nelly Furtado is pop with a (sharp) edge. She is not your typical blonde pop queen, instead she is an awesome singer with a voice like no other. She has created her own style of music.

After listening to ‘Loose’ I thought I take a couple of steps backwards and listen to her debut album. I first heard Nelly on the radio with "I'm Like a Bird." It was definitely catchy but never bought the album because anyone can write one catchy song. After hearing this album I see that she has managed to create an album all her own and I also understand why she had accumulated so many fans. The cover of this album is very cute because it has this 70’s appeal to it. The first thing I notice in this album is the unique beats and rhythms. The sheer audacity of the album is really what won me over, though. It doesn't pull its punches, and much of it is clearly felt through her voice even though very nasal at times, is often balanced by her own lower, more soulful back-up. She often attaches a 40's jazz style vibrato to the notes she carries to smooth out her meowing. Her lyrics vary from cut-&-dry to romantically poetic without being overly sentimental, and her accompaniment is touched by every side of the spectrum. There’s everything from classical string arrangements, to metallic guitar riffs, with turn-table scratching, bouncing techno synthesizer, and her cultural, acoustic guitar in- between. The tracks that I’ve gathered as my favorites are "Legend," "Well, Well", "My Love Grows Deeper Part 1," "I Will Make U Cry," "Scared of You,"(You liked me till you heard my s*** on the radio)”, "Baby Girl," and "Turn off The Light." Each expresses strength and life very well. "I Will Make U Cry" as well as "Party" are very emotional songs, filled the rawest of raw feelings and I also love the instrumental introduction on "Hey Man." This album did not disappoint me. I was very impressed of the uniqueness and originality of her first album. Rather than try to sound like others, she crafted her own style first time out. Nelly Furtado is an artist who obviously had a lot to say.

I discovered this cd months ago. Despite friends telling me there was no other good songs besides her first hit, I'm like a bird, I bought it anyway. At first I wasn't so sure about it because it was so different from what I was used to; but the longer I listened to it the more I realized how interesting and new this style of music was. Then I realized she writes her own music. That's incredible these days. To be able to write and sing and be recognized for talent and not sex appeal, which seems to be the way to go when your blonde and have no talent(example: Britney Spears). This girl obviously does have talent. She was asked to perform at Lilith Fair many times and appeared on Jay Leno. Her lyrics are thought provoking and not like your usual love song or the overdone you broke my heart, I hate you song. Everything about this new artist is fresh and original. She has her own style, both musically and appearance wise. Her music has an international feeling. It has a kind of hiphop, gypsy, hippie feeling. Furtado is just so different, which is a relief from all the same old teeny bopper excuse for music. It's even a good change from actually talented people like McLaughlin and others who write about real things. Her lyrics are pure and her talent can be taken seriously. Overall, I was thouroughly impressed. I still listen to it after months. The only complaint I had was that there weren't more songs on the album.

Nelly Furtado is awesome. She is one of my favorite singers. This album is very inspirational and is a good reference for good songwriting, cuz she is a great songwriter. Listen to songs like "Hey, Man!", "Legend", and "I Will Make U Cry", other great tracks from Nelly Furtado.

Nelly Furtado's CD is amazing! Although I have to admit you have to listen to it a couple of times before you really get into it. My favorites are ''On the radio'', ''I'm like a bird'', ''Turn off the light'', and ''Legend.'' After listening to ''Whoa Nelly'', I can safely say she is one of my new favorite artists.

I bought the CD. Loved it. Went to the show in Washington DC...even better. she has endless energy, the band is unreal, and mood can't be beat. Reminds me of Rusted Root mixed with a little Alanis, Sheryl Crow and Jewel.

This CD is very fresh. Nothing like a lot of the music popular right now. It includes a little mix of DJ, alternative, and guitar with her interesting vocals. I discovered Nelly Furtado's music through Napster, and I am very glad of it. In my opinion, the best songs are Hey Man, Turn Out the Lights, Like a Bird(which they have begun playing on one of my local radio stations), On the Radio, and Well Well. I was surprised and very happy with my purchase!
