Loved it but I knew without a doubt what was going to happen. What shocked me was the Prelude after the book ended. Wow

A little hard to believe a grammer school crush and hero worship could last 20 years, but as the story evolved you are tatally hooked. Loved all the characters. Intend to read the other 2 in series next. CB

Reading a Carey Heywood book is like coming home. Her stories are innately comfortable; her characters feel like old friends; you’re not an outsider reading about someone else’s life. Rather, she makes the reader a part of the story, a patron at a local diner catching up on the latest gossip. You’re a part of the world that she creates. In Why Now? Heywood tells an unrequited love story; a tale of a second chance at your first love. It’s a unique take on the “best friend’s brother” storyline, with a little added twist. This story has a quirky beginning that hooks the reader almost immediately, thrusting us right into the heart of the matter. The blurb hints at a bit of a love triangle, but let me assure you, it’s nothing like you’re thinking. There is no clear cut good guy/bad guy in this triangle. It really is an unconventional situation, and the reader is left gasping, sighing, and chuckling as the story unfolds. As with a lot of Carey Heywood books, there is a hidden depth to Why Now? She explores family dynamics, small town life, and threads the story with themes of various types of love, loss, and redemption. As I turned the pages in this book, I experienced so many emotions. I laughed, I cried, I swooned (a lot). These are characters I will visit again and again, and I’m so anxious to see where this series takes us.
