Why We Walk is a tribute to the millions of women and men who crowd America's streets to walk in order to combat breast cancer. Some are survivors of breast cancer themselves, while others have friends or family that have been affected by this devastating disease. The common thread is a quest for a cure. The brilliant photographs bring to life the stories that are told throughout the book, showing the strength, determination and joy that embody these walkers. This full-color coffee table book will be a wonderful gift book of encouragement or as a memento of someone's own walk.

About the Author
Deb Murphy participated in her first long distance breast cancer walk in 1999 to show support for her godmother, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. That weekend proved to be one of the most extraordinary times in her life, and even then she knew that Why We Walk would have to be a book. Currently, she is vice president of Lionheart Books. A graduate of the State University of New York at Geneseo, she lives in Atlanta, Georgia, with her son Nicholas.
Paula Lerner began this project as a healthy and gifted photographer whose editorial roster includes Smithsonian, People, Time, Newsweek, Business Week, and more. Several months after beginning work on this book, Paula herself was unexpectedly diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then she has completed treatment, is doing well and has a good prognosis. She lives near Boston with her husband and two daughters.
