Ray was a dear freind of mine and I still mourn his death. What a classic struggle of good and evil that took place. I love him as a brother but he could still frighten me sometimes. Mainly he enriched my life by letting me see that a person can still successfully march to his own tune while thumbing his nose at most conventional ideas. My heart is heavy for the people who had to struggle in this book but I loved the open frankness of the story telling. I laughed and I cried; not many books make you do that. I miss you Ray.

One of the best I've read (and I read a lot!) A well-written page-turner, Wicked Current accurately portrays the stuggles, joys and humor in the turn-of-the-centruy Ozarks and of the Mountain people and Indians of the plains. I wish history was this interesting in school. You cared about these characters - it was easy to laugh and cry along with them. A great American novel written from one who has lived the life he writes about.

This book is a tragic plea for forgivness to all thoes the author hurt along the way. The characters in this book profoundly resemble poeple in his past. The tormenter was simply him; the young boy my sister. The young wife, my own mother. This book is a voyage into the deep psychological struggal of the author's subconcious guilt. Reader, he died in vain, his plea for forgivness was not gained in life, not yet in death.
