Wicked Dirty by J. Kenner

2018 RITA Award Winner for Erotic Romance

Sometimes bad isn’t good enough…

On the outside, Lyle Tarpin is a clean-cut Hollywood actor whose star is on the rise. Inside, he’s battling his own demons, shunning relationships and finding solace in the arms of a string of anonymous women paid very well for their discretion.

But when he’s photographed in a compromising position by an over-eager reporter, the only way to save his career is to say that the woman he was with is his fiancée. And now Lyle has to play a very public game with the only woman who’s ever managed to get under his skin.

Struggling waitress Sugar Laine agrees to spend one night with Lyle—but only because she’s desperate to save her family home. She never expects that a night of passion will turn into a pretend engagement … or that the heat between them will blossom into love.

But sometimes love has a price.

And now the only question is—can Lyle and Sugar afford to pay it?

Wicked Dirty by Julie Kenner is another love story that will sweep you off of your feet! It entranced me and made my heart and soul sing! It also made me hot and bothered from the carnal build up of passion. The slow, steady build was perfection! You will love the heroine Sugar and the hero Lyle. They are the glue the fixes each other's cracks and breaks. Wicked Dirty is another book by J Kenner that you won't want to end!

Book 2 in new series centering around the ambitious, wealthy and powerful men who work in the glamorous world of Stark International conglomerate and the women they fall for ..... Lyle Tarpin is Hollywoods latest heartthrob,a rising star who everybody loves, what you don't know is he spends his nights having meaningless sex with women who are only needed for the night, all he wants to do is erase the memories, guilt and pain he feels and he believes losing himself in a woman for a few hours helps. It was working until he met Sugar Laine who thought she could do what was needed for some fast cash to save her family home. Sugar needs cash and Lyle needs a fake girlfriend, you might say it's a win win but then feelings come into the mix what starts off as an instant attraction soon becomes love but will love be enough for Lyle stop hiding from his past and move forward with the women he can't get out of his mind and will Sugar be prepared to wait for him to come to his senses. Mention the Stark name and I'm dropping what ever else I'm reading and this book did not disappoint, this looks like it's shaping up to be yet another fantastic series from J Kenner as always the characters are strong and you fall in love with them instantly. The chemistry is sizzling but it's not just a hot story it's a love story with some twists and turns, it's sweet and hot all rolled into one and I can't wait for the next book which I hope is Noah's story.

Julie has done it again. Wicked Dirty is everything we love about Julie's books, the things that make us devour it in a short time and ask for more. Having the opportunity to read Lyle and Sugar's story early I can tell you with out the doubt if you love Damien, Jackson, Ryan, Wyatt, and Dallas.... Lyle is waiting for you to fall for him too. Lyle and Sugar both have a trouble past. Lyle covers his with his 'Iowa Boy charm' movie star status and finding comfort in one nights with women. Sugar finds comfort in flipping house but when she needs money for her family home a friend, Joy helps her find a way. And that way is in to Lyle's life. This book has the feel of Pretty Woman or a fairy tale but the Dirty fairy tale that Julie always delivers us.

Sugar Laine (what a great name) is a girl who has everything thrown at her, but somehow she still struggles through, but now having foreclosure on her house, will that be the final straw.... a straw that makes you desperate. Lyle Tarpin, is the harmony made good, or so everybody thinks but are the secrets he's hiding really that bad... Sugar and Lyle make a great couple, and I love them both. I would have like to have know a little more about Sugar's Dad and the back story there, but nonetheless a great read. You can help but feel happy for the both of them, but I did wonder about the title, as it is really not that dirty ☺️

There are so many reasons why I like this book but the characters are number one. Ms. Kenner knows how to write genuine characters with stories that touch the heart. When her mom named her Sugar Lane and she realized what it sounded like she was horrified. Now going by Laine she works super hard to try to save her childhood home. With good friends and lots of employers, she never thinks she will have to sink to this. Lyle may be the golden boy of Hollywood but he certainly isn't in his own mind. And when he gets hit in the face by what his past has caused it's shocking. He never expects to meet a genuine girl who might be able to look past what everyone else sees. I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

An amazing story written by J. Kenner. From the beginning to the end of Lyle and Lanie story was off the charts. Words can't describe how much you enjoy.

The newest amazing standalone in the Stark World series! My word, ladies, (and gentlemen too!) if you want to find your next book boyfriend, look no further than Mr. Lyle Tarpin, the swoonworthy and delectable fastest rising star in Hollywood. He's an all around good guy, but has some skeletons in his past he tries to hide. One that he uses some not so savory girls for. Along comes Sugar Laine, or simply Laine, who needs money, like now, to save her families house, now if only she can set her previous ethics aside. These two are combustible together when they meet, and when a photographer catches them together, they are forced to pretend to be together. I loved these two, they were honest characters with problems that made my heart ache. I love that these two found each other in dark times, they both seemingly grew up overnight. Wicked Dirty has passion, heart, and a great story. Not one that you want to miss!

J. Kenner has done it again! I loved the story and these two characters. They seem to meet each other in a time in both of their lives where they each need one another. They really made the other better. The story was perfect for these two, and the fact that Kenner can make a non sex scene one of, if not the, hottest scene in the book... *applause*

J. Kenner is quickly becoming one of my go-to authors, her Stark World a place I want to spend time in. Wicked Dirty, the latest in her extended Stark series, hits all the right marks and stands out as a slow-burn romance that doesn’t keep you waiting. This is a slow-burn, fake girlfriend story that I couldn’t put down. Sugar and Lyle are fantastic characters that are easy to connect with and just incredibly likable. Both have had rough times, something that draws them together even when they meet in unusual circumstances. I loved Sugar, she’s the kind of character that I want as a friend. She’s easy to get along with, but doesn’t pull any punches. She’s had hard times but doesn’t allow it to bring drama to her life. She knows how important good people are to have around and she works to make sure that happens. She was a quiet port in the storm of Lyle’s life which was refreshing because, let’s face it, it’s usually the heroine bringing the drama. Instead, Sugar faces adversity head on with a cool head without being an ice queen, and she helps Lyle learn to do the same. I don’t know if Lyle qualifies as an alpha. I like the term “quiet alpha” for him, as he takes command when needed but doesn’t find it necessary to dominate-which wouldn’t have worked with Sugar. He’s living someone else’s life on many levels, but doing it so well that not many realize it. He’s the good guy that the media has portrayed him to be, even though he doesn’t believe it to be true. It was heartbreaking to see this, but also so relatable because which one of us isn’t quick to think the worst of ourselves? Lyle and Sugar are adorable, yet sexy together. They’re fun and flirty with heat simmering between them from the moment they meet. The slow-burn allows readers to really get to know them as a couple, but it never becomes boring as they face hardships that they refreshingly tackle together rather than with misunderstandings and angst. One of my favorite parts of the book was the opening for Wyatt Royce’s photography show. If you’ve read the previous book in this series, Wicked Grind, then you know Wyatt and Kelsey’s story. I loved that J. Kenner treated readers to the show through Sugar’s eyes. It allowed Wyatt’s vision to come to life as he described it while drawing the two books together. But, even if you haven’t read Wicked Grind, you won’t be lost as these two can easily be read as standalones. They’re the only two I’ve read in the extended Stark world that Kenner’s created, but instead of feeling lost I want to read the others to get their stories. 4.5 Stars for Wicked Grind. Heat level: 3 I received a copy of this book from InkSlingerPR in exchange for honest feedback.

The Stark World series is fantastic! Totally loved this book from beginning to end. I loved Lyle and Sugar from the way they met to their HEA ending after a few speed bumps along the way. Totally fell in love with Lyle, the sweet, hot movie star with a secret and painful past and Sugar's great personality and never give up attitude. These two sizzle and are fantastic together. I can't wait for the next book!

I am in awe with J. Kenner's writing. I have been reading her books since she started the Stark series and I am more than addicted with Stark World. This is what I love about these books. J. Kenner has to reference back to her previous books that has to do with the characters she writes about now. Lyle was introduced to us many moons back, and made an appearance in Dallas and Jane's books. I was impressed how point on she is with this! There is so much history and since I have reread these books, I knew right away these references were correct! It was like walking down memory lane. This is why I will forever love Julie and her books. Lyle broke my heart! That sums it up. I love him and with his past coming out in this book, I cried for him and his loss. Wicked Dirty put a lot of his personality into perspective for me. Sugar was the perfect heroine for Lyle. I loved her innocence, but at the same time this girl has spunk! She will push Lyle to his limits until he finally can find himself. Their chemistry was on key. The insta click that they have for each other was written in a way that you feel it just had to happen. It was not sappy or pushed upon. And my book husband makes an appearance ( if you have read any of my J. Kenner reviews, you will know who that is ;). I love revisiting with all the characters that show up and support Lyle. It is like coming back home for me. Wicked Dirty definitely brought the dirty to the book. I was engrossed in this book and hung on to every word written. Lyle was making noise for awhile and this is the perfect time to let his story be heard. I am obsessed with these characters. I will never stop reading these books and can not wait for Wicked Torture to be released!

"I shouldn’t want this. Shouldn’t want his touch or the fantasy that this could lead somewhere. I should just play the role I’m supposed to play and move on." Desperate for money, waitress Sugar Laine reluctantly agrees to a normally unthinkable proposition- sex with a stranger, essentially a one time business transaction, to save her home. Little does she know, the anonymous stranger haunted by his past is actually dreamy Hollywood golden boy Lyle Tarpin. After their first encounter, pictures of the pair are leaked on the internet forcing them into a fabricated relationship. Both of them are playing a role, but when the romance begins to feel too real, how can they tell if the emotions are just part of the act or the beginning of something more? Wicked Dirty is a surprisingly sweet & sexy story. The premise was intriguing, the characters flawed but endearing as they dealt with present circumstances & past mistakes. I enjoyed seeing their relationship evolve and could feel their concerns & uncertainty over what was fact & what was fiction in their charade. The second of J. Kenner's Wicked books is definitely worth the read

Book Two of the Stark World series and as of right now it's my favorite. Meet Lyle the hot actor who always attends events stag, recognize the name (he's represented by Evelyn, my favorite tell it as it is supporting character), you've already met him if you are a fan of the Stark universe. Meet Sugar (don't worry the author explains that one), the hard working (multiple jobs) female who is dealing with a lot and not one to give up, overall a level headed character (kind of reminds me a little of Evelyn when she calls it how she sees it). I've called J. Kenner the "Queen of Second Chance Romance," because a lot of her books in the Stark Series fall under this category; however, Sugar is a brand new character we've never met and neither has Lyle. It was a nice change to see how their relationship developed without past angst fogging things up. While I completely saw the ending of this book coming from a mile way, it's well written and the book isn't too long or short. Just like Wicked Grind, a few of your other favorite Stark (main and supporting) characters make an appearance. I'm a sucker for detail and have a hard time with a series when an author tempts something like this and doesn't get it right. J. Kenner does a great job with these overlapping characters appearing in each other's books and the occasionally overlapping timelines. I think I have an idea who Book Three is going to be about and I'm excited for it.

Oh my goodness, J Kenner does it again! Yet another hot, sizzling couple in Stark World! Like an updated pretty woman story, but with a LOT more heat! Started a little slow for me, but quickly escalated to grab ahold and suck you right in. The desire between these two was palpable! Can't wait to read more about these two in the future!

WICKED DIRTY is the second installment in J. Kenner’s contemporary, adult STARK WORLD erotic, romance series-a spin off set in the world of the author’s Stark Trilogy. This is Hollywood actor Lyle Tarpin, and waitress Sugar Laine’s story line. You do not have to have read the previous installment or the original series to follow Wicked Grind. Some of the characters including Damien and Nikki Stark cross-over or are mentioned for cohesion and familiarity. Told from first person point of view (Sugar) and third person (Lyle) WICKED DIRTY follows the fake relationship between Hollywood actor Lyle Tarpin, and struggling waitress Sugar Laine. Lyle is desperate to keep the wolves away from his door including a sexually aggressive co-star who has the ability to make or break his rising Hollywood star. But Lyle’s history with women is colored by a past shrouded in secrets, lies and discretionary payment for $ex. Enter Sugar Laine, a down on her luck waitress who is financially struggling to pay her bills, and the woman with whom Lyle will fall in love. What ensues is the fake to real relationship between Sugar and Lyle, and the fall out when the truth is revealed. The relationship between Lyle and Sugar begins as a paid encounter. Sugar is about to lose the only home she has ever known, and a quick influx of cash presents itself in the guise of a paid escort for a Hollywood star. Lyle is our hero; a man who knows all about the struggle to keep clothes on his back and food in his stomach, and he is determined to help Sugar pay off her loans never considering that his fake relationship would turn into something real. The $ex scenes are limited but intimate and passionate without the over the top, sexually graphic language and text. Unlike most of J. Kenner’s story lines, WICKED DIRTY presents a softer side to the $ex, love and romance trope but that’s not to say there isn’t a definite palpable sexual energy between our leading couple. WICKED DIRTY is a heartbreaking story between two people whose pasts are awash in struggle and loss. The premise is emotional and engaging; the characters are broken, colorful and inspiring- our heroine battles her feelings for a man she believes is playing the role of his life; the romance is captivating and sensual.

Wicked Dirty by J. Kenner continues the ever expanding connected web of interesting characters in the Stark World, with Sugar Laine and Lyle Tarpin. On the surface Lyle seems to have it all but inside he is damaged, conflicted and living someone else's life. Laine's life is busier and more hectic on the outside, but she can see through Lyle's facade.  I liked these characters, the depth and complexity of them. Laine had conflicts which were real as did Lyle. Laine does not give in just because of Lyle's fame but only because of who he is inside.  I recommend Wicked Dirty by J. Kenner because not only is it a well written story with great characters, but it also is a nice length book. Long enough to give real meat and depth, while short enough not to drag. Perfect reading choice for any day of the week. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book I received for free from the author in exchange for my open and honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.)

"That was the bottom line. He just plain wanted her, and he wasn't sure if it was too late. Wasn't sure if he had the strength to do what it took to get her back." Holy Hell. Lyle Tarpin is one hot man! I loved the instant chemistry between Lyle and Sugar. I went through a rollercoaster of feels reading this one. It was heartwarming, funny, sexy, heartbreaking, and steamy! Lyle is in top of the world. An actor in demand. And living a lie. Carrying an unseen guilt, and an endless pain of loss, he won't let anyone too close. No relationships. Faceless. Many. Meaningless. Paid escorts only. He just needs the release. A quick speed dial and his night is set. Sugar, aka Laine, finds herself in a desperate situation. Broke and in imminent danger of becoming homeless, she goes down a path she never thought she would. She had no idea how a knock on a hotel door could change her life forever. Outed by an unrelenting media, the two need to pull off the best acting job ever. But what happens when playing for the cameras becomes too real? When buried truths are unearthed? Will the past doom their futures? I love these Stark books! The intertwining of both new and old characters and story lines is just amazing! I'm forever a Damien Stark fan, but Lyle? He's my guy.

Title: Wicked Dirty Author: J. Kenner Genre: Adult Romance Format: Ebook - ARC Pages: 300 Rating: 5 Heat: 5 Thoughts: As usual, I couldn’t put it down! And I’m so happy that we got to have Lyle’s story!! Damien is still my favorite but so far all the guys in the Stark world are awesome. Not a one isn’t book boyfriend material, and oh so swoon worthy. I love how we’ve heard of Lyle before, we know about as much about him as any other fan does, practically nothing. But we’ve met him, we know he’s hot and must be a good person since Damien likes him lol. And I loved getting to know him better!! But if you haven’t read any of the other Stark books, no worries, you aren’t going to be lost reading this stand-alone. But I do suggest you read them all! Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work and chose to write a review.

Wicked Dirty is an interesting title for Sugar and Lyle’s story because those adjectives don’t seem to truly depict the path that they take to explore the building attraction between them and the unexplained clarity and calm that Sugar seems to illicit from Lyle. But once their ‘fake’ relationship becomes something more than either ever expected, their connection definitely turns naughty and smutty in all the best ways! Desperation makes people do things they wouldn’t ordinarily do and that’s the situation that Sugar Laine finds herself in when Hollywood Heartthrob Lyle Tarpin gives her an offer she can’t refuse. But that’s only the beginning for Sugar and Lyle because what’s supposed to be one night…what’s supposed to be a way for Sugar to save her family home and then walkaway leaves them both ‘pretending’ to not want to make everything real between them…not for the media or for the money…but for themselves. I absolutely adored Sugar Laine; she’s definitely my kind of heroine because she doesn’t pretend to be more than she is and even though she’s in dire straits, she doesn’t compromise her principles or allow those around her to make her feel inferior…don’t get me wrong, she does make some questionable decisions and perhaps doesn’t think everything totally through when she reacts, but she never stops being the woman she’s always been, which is what I think adds to her intrigue when it comes to her getting under Lyle’s skin. Lyle Tarpin is currently Hollywood’s “It” actor and boy is he taking advantage of the luxuries he receives due to his rising status, but behind Lyle’s killer smile and model looks is a man who never allows anyone to truly see him…to truly understand how dark he is due to the secrets he keeps, and while Sugar allows Lyle to not feel so smothered by the darkness, the only person who can truly help him is himself and that’s easier said than done when it comes to coming clean on a topic that Lyle would rather not have come to light. Lyle and Sugar’s story started a little slow for me, but once the photo was released and they became a fixture in each other’s lives, the pace of the story as well as my interest grew. I love that J. Kenner always allows readers to check in with the other characters in her Stark family and while they’re only their briefly, it’s always good to see what they’re up to and know that they’ll pop up every now and again, either to help out the main characters or just offer insight from shared experiences. The Stark World continues to tantalize and tease with delicious storylines and main characters who are rising stars in their own right, even if they don’t feel that way when their story begins, and although the hero and heroine may be from completely different worlds, when they collide, there’s nothing to prevent them from exploring what they seem to get from each other and no one else regardless of the slow burn of their relationship. 4.5 Poison Apples

This was an unexpectedly great time. I put it that was because after I started it I wasn't quite digging where it was going but it quickly grabbed me and kept me intrigued and invested in page turning and I couldn't turn those pages fast enough to find out what was going to happen next. Does that mean I will tell you what happened? Not a chance. I really recommend you read this one and you don't need to read the first in the series to know where you are because it is completely standalone even if the characters from the previous books make a showing. Sugar Laine is dire straights and working too many jobs and not getting anywhere and her friend has an idea to help her out. A date. Well, a contract date with Mr. Z who turns out to be Lyle Tarpin, only the hottest movie star around. Great chemistry, hot secrets, fake engagement that turns into a real relationship and you have a twisty good story! I definitely recommend this one. **Received this ARC for review**
