Overview

Wicked Game by Mercy Celeste

Cass Pendleton and Jaime Dalton have been mortal enemies since the first day of kindergarten when Jaime pulled her hair and Cass knocked him flat on his ass.

Jaime is on the verge of superstardom in the NFL; all that's missing is a Super Bowl ring and a personal assistant who can handle his business without handling his business.

Cass seems to be the best person for the job. She's smart, mouthy, dependable, pig-headed, loyal, and completely not his type. So why can't Jaime think of anything except Cass?

He knows one thing for dead certain. If the game doesn't kill him, sex with Cass Pendleton most definitely will.

I thought this was going to be one of those corn ball erotic books. You know where the characters say the lamest thing and then they have very explicit sex. Surprisingly no, that did not happen. These characters had some depth. By the second chapter you are drawn to their quirky but, erotic relationship.

The best reaction I could muster for this book was boredom. Finishing it was a chore. I kept checking out to do Sudoku puzzles or play Mahjong. The story went from loathing --> sex in 2.5 seconds; there was no real build up. The change ambushed me, and made no real sense. So, I'm completely indifferent, and I expect more from my books than mere indifference. I won't ever be reading this book again, and I consider it a waste of money. If ever I should think back and remember this story, I imagine I'll feel an overwhelming sense of disappointment that 1: I paid money for it, and 2: it wasn't worth the time I invested. Total bummer.

Loved the characters and loved just how much I truly enjoyed reading this book. I laughed and at times cringed when something went wrong and even cried. Steamy love scenes do not dissapoint either. No nookie then jump to next day it delves into the thought process of both his and her thoughts and ideas. A keeper for sure

Hate to Love stories. LOVE. Childhood friends to lovers. LOVE. Jocks. LOVE. Yeah, so needless to say I enjoyed this story. It was a quick hot read with humor, hotness, and a dash of intrigue. "Lord Ironman" and "Pepper" are hilarious and likeable.

I liked the plot however way to much kinky sex for me.

I just cant stop falling in love with a H/H with some backstory vs. the instant-love and HEA we see a lot in this genre. If my "childhood nemesis" - who now happens to be a sculpted God in a football jersey- offered me a 6-figure salary to be his Girl Friday, I'd hop to it without a fight! But not Cass...or Pepper as Jaime likes to call her! The Ironman references were funny. The dialogue between these two is adversarial yet hilarious. As the hero's mom states, more like foreplay than anything else, it's the best part of this story, IMHO. Hot sex scenes can only take a book so far - and this book does deliver there too, but the dialogue is what makes the story (for me). You know under the bickering there are two people who really respect one another while trying to cover up some seriously combustible chemistry! The stalker subplot was a little melodramatic towards the end but still made sense for the development of the characters' story. When these two characters stop fighting, they were very cute and the romance was sweet!
