“Widowmaker” is an action filled Western novel, one of the finest I have read and is now one of my favorite novels. Often western novels tend to be more geared toward a masculine audience, however quickly enough I found the story to have what I think is a much broader reader appeal. I found myself drawn deep into the narrative very quickly and, though filled with action and knowledge of everything pertaining to the time in which it is set, including locales and a range of period weaponry with detailed knowledge of how the weaponry works, not to mention rough characters, and old west towns, the plot quickly enough drew me in as if I were a live “on the spot” observer of ongoing action. William McClintock not only has imagination, but a penchant for accuracy in the details of the setting of the story.. I started slowly and then could not put the book down. The author makes both main characters well known, and as a reader, I felt invested in them personally. Both carried secrets yet to be revealed – or not – in this volume. I was captured and enthralled with the relationship that developed between Cole and Faro Jenny; nothing close to ordinary. The book resonates strongly and is thick with finely woven details that carried me through the landscapes of the novel, standing in the prairie or the town or on the trail as if I were there in an increasingly involved state of mind, observing one of the finest love stories and shaping of the character of a man that I’ve read and which I quickly became emotionally vested in. Toward the last one half of the book, I found myself reading and crying, then cheering like I’m at a football game. This book is an adrenaline pumping ride, and I can’t wait until I start reading its sequel. Diana Obe Pensacola, Florida
