Overview

From the bestselling author of The Memory of Butterflies comes the first in a bittersweet series about love and loss.

Kara Hart was scarred by loss—first the loss of her mother and now her husband. She feels broken, with no will to move forward, until her father does the unexpected: he moves to the Virginia countryside to restore an old Victorian mansion. Kara decides to go with him, telling herself that it will only be temporary.

The huge house is neglected and derelict, but Kara discovers its breathtaking field of wildflowers and is stunned by their beauty. The house, the grounds, and the quirky neighbors—including a handsome one—are almost as fascinating as her father’s sudden willingness to discuss her mother and his own secret past.

Kara is finding her new normal when tragedy strikes again, forcing her to make difficult choices. Will she go back to her old life and risk losing all she has gained? Or will she face her fears and give herself the opportunity to grow?

What a beautifully written emotional story. This author is the best at giving us characters to really feel a connection with. Kara had suffered numerous losses in her life yet she was strong and continued on as best she could. In reading, I felt as if I could see the old Victorian house and picture the gorgeous wildflowers garden. This book will take you through a variety of heart wrenching moments, truly sad moments, but the most important... happy and survival moments. * I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. It was my own decision to read and review this book.

Wildflower Heart is a touching story involving a woman who has lived her life believing she was to blame for her mother’s leaving when she was a young girl. When her cheating husband dies a a car accident that also injures her, she moves back in with her father just as he is changing his life. Together, they move to a remote home in Cub Creek, a home that she has no idea of how much it impacted her father’s life. Life in Cub Creek beings meaning back to Kara, slowly but daily as she also comes back to life and to love.

I had to read this book because two of my favorite authors, Patricia Sands and Bette Lee Crosby were recommending it. I have to say that their recommendation was fabulous!! I am grateful I read it and look forward to the next in this series, as this is just book 1 in “The Wildflower House Book” Series. I also want to read her other novels. This is very exciting! I love being introduced to an author that I will be following. We meet Kara who enters wildly into the story, there is no slow lead up; which I loved! Grace Greene uses the wildflower both literally and figuratively throughout the story until the very end. Her writing is very poetic, so you really feel as though are where Kara is during each scene. It is truly beautiful. This is the story of Kara’s journey of recovery from a tragic event that occurred when she heard heartbreaking news from her husband, Niles on their anniversary. She was able to depend on her Father, even though he may have been the “king of Understatements”; he was still the one that she could count on when it really mattered. Loss. Regret. Forgiveness. Grief. Family. Love. Are all intermixed in this story, like the seeds of wildflowers. Characters you don’t want to say goodbye to; which always makes the best stories! The way she describes the wildflower garden. Let’s just say, my 12-degree day was definitely warmer! Well Done! This is a great cup of tea, warm blanket or sitting by the seaside read.

A STORY OF RESILIENCE! WILDFLOWER HEART (The Wildflower House # 1) by Grace Greene is a story of RESILIENCE. One of my favorite quotes is: “Never trust a (wo)man without a limp.” In other words, people without “imperfections” (i.e. real life experiences) don’t always see things clearly. They feel as though they have ideal families, careers and relationships. These are the people who tend to compartmentalize. They lead orderly lives but in reality are they really living? Kara Hart has been one of those “compartmentalizers” all her life. It’s a trait she learned well from her successful Tire/Automotive Magnate - her Dad. She’s suffered several devastating losses and a real limp from a devastating car accident but remains stoic through it all. She finds solace in doing needlework of flowers as part of her rehabilitation. It takes her Dad making major unexpected changes to get her attention that life is passing her by. Who would have thought that a field of beautiful wildflowers could begin to bring peace to such a troubled heart! It takes meeting a new group of genuine people who accept her just as she is and seeing someone who reminds her of a reflection of who she was to shake her to her soul. Her future is a blank canvas. What will she choose to fill it with? Who will she choose to spend her time with? I was provided an ARC of this novel by NetGalley and Lake Union Publishers. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.

Wildflower Heart is a bittersweet story full of pathos and sometimes desolation. It will touch a reader's heart with a lingering sense of sorrow and yet not without hope. I was drawn into Kara's story immediately as the first chapters find her a young teen dealing with the abandonment and subsequent loss of her mother. As the story continues, Kara finds life continues to bring challenges, challenges that may just break her spirit and yet, as her father reminds her, she is resilient and will find the strength to triumph. Beautifully written with the image of an amazing, almost magical field of wildflowers scattered throughout the story, Kara's journey through grief is unexpected, and yet one in which she finds value. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the second in the Wildflower House series. I was given a complimentary copy of the book and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

This is a story of losses, heartbreak, pain and suffering. For Kara, it just didn’t stop. A horrific accident, leaves her with devastating injuries and a lengthy recovery, physically, mentally, and emotionally. The author, Grace Greene, beautiful paints a verbal picture of the wildflowers, that carpet the grounds of the stately old house, that her father Henry buys. The making of a great team, they have to sort through old scars, to be able to put this house together. A fascinating look at restoring old classics and the beauty that can come out of removed layers! Thank you to Lake Union Publishers, NetGalley and Grace Green for the ARC.

Wildflower Heart is a beautiful story about getting through the tough times and moving on. That's easier said than done for Kara. She has had a lifetime of people she has loved, just up and leaving her. She moves with her father when he buys a new home but she still hasn't moved on with her life. Will the change in scenery help her change her life? Grace has penned a heart-warming, lovely story which includes plenty of soul searching and reflection about what is important in life. I loved the gentleness of the words and the wonderful, caring characters. I'm so excited that this is going to be a series because I came to think of Kara and the rest of the people in the story as good friends and I can't wait to visit them again.

Wildflower Heart is a poignant tale, a sentimental journey through the life of Kara Lange Hart. Kara's dad described her as resilient, a characteristic that stood her is good stead during her life's many lows with far too few highs. Kara was a survivor, and each time she got back up after being knocked down, she was better and stronger. Kara learned to see herself, other people, and circumstances for what they were, learning to accept each for the positive things they held, but not blinded to shortcomings, yet not controlled by them either. At first I thought that this story was best read by someone who was in a good place in their own life, someone who would not be depressed by the sadder parts of Kara's story, but then I realized that someone in not such a good place would benefit greatly from the hope Kara found as she moved through life, allowing herself to grow. Grace Greene is an accomplished author; Wildflower Heart showcases her ability to use the beauty of language to capture her readers' hearts and to lead them to embrace her characters. I am sure others looking for a book with depth will gratefully spend time between the covers of this of Wildflower Heart. I anxiously await the next book in this series, and was privileged to be asked to read this book in exchange for an honest opinion. I was under no obligation to provide a positive review and received no monetary compensation.

Kara has experienced heartbreak early in her life. Her mother left when she was 14 with no explanation, and Kara had to accept and move on. Now, on her anniversary, she finds out that her husband is having an affair. Devastated and trying to process, her life is further altered when they are involved in a horrific automobile accident, in which her husband dies. Wildflower Heart is the story of Kara's struggles to overcome two devastating losses and come to terms with her life as it is altered, both emotionally and physically. Her father purchases a house out in the country and Kara is helping him to remodel and remake the house into a home; a home that doesn't see herself inhabiting. The saving grace of the home is the beautiful field of wildflowers in the backyard. A field that she comes to treasure. How will she survive, and can she overcome it all to become a stronger person? Beautifully written, this story will resonate with readers. Grace Greene writes from the heart. I received an ARC of this book inreturn for an honest review. Thank you Grace Greene and Lake Union.

When I began this book, I wasn't sure I could finish it. The first quarter was of loss and grieving in a dysfunctional family. Then everything opened up with the change in venue. The move to Wildflower House made all the difference. As Kara's thoughts state," ...sometimes the things you didn't know could hurt you by preventing you from understanding." The addition of new characters: Seth, Nicole, Maddie Lyn, Mel, was so warming that understanding was less painful, as they added their support. One would hope that the sadness would abate, and it does, but not permanently. This is an honest story. Joy and sorrow intermix to produce a truly enthralling tale. I assure you I read as much as I could as often as possible, gasping and crying along the way, until I unwillingly read the last line. But that's not the end. There is a sequel, Wildflower Hope, due out this year. I can't wait! Thank you to NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Wildflower Heart is the first in book in the Wildflower House series by Grace Greene, and also the first book I have read by this author. As soon as I started reading I wondered how I could have missed reading any of her books before, and I was glad Wildflower Heart was the first of a new series because now I have so much to look forward to. As well as catching up with Greene’s other books, of course! Wildflower Heart is Kara’s story. But it’s so much more than that. It’s the story of her mother who leaves, her husband who dies, and her father who has always been present but distant and suddenly reveals a new, surprising side and history. And it’s about the wildflowers. The beautiful wildflowers at the broken-down, neglected house her father has bought that take Kara’s breath away. Kara was in a terrible accident. She’s recovering slowly both emotionally and physically and has never really gotten over life’s losses. She’s not ready to return to normal, whatever that is, and get back into the everyday world to make her place. The move with her father is intended to be temporary, but once again life happens. Wildflower Heart is a beautiful story, about loss and love and emotional support and family and friends both new and old. The sense of romance will envelop you. The writing is excellent, with characters so well developed and fascinating that you can’t wait to learn their secrets. The pace of the story is smooth. It’s not a thriller full of suspense, but there are many twists and turns and unexpected reveals, so much so that I could not put the book down; I just did not want to leave this place and these characters. And the wildflowers – the description of them is so vivid you feel you are standing in the field, mesmerized by their beauty. I received an advance copy of Wildflower Heart from the author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I loved Kara’s story. Grace Greene leaves the door very satisfactorily open for many things to happen as the series moves along, and I can’t wait for the next book to find out what comes next.

This is a beautifully written novel! I was quickly absorbed in the plot, and the wonderful characters! “Nothing is perfect— not the past, not ourselves, and not our present.” This is the basis of this heartwarming story. Kara has been wounded all though her life in many ways, but her “resilience” is strong. She has survived the loss of many people during her years. One evening, Kara has a life changing collision that changes her world. There is a long road following this crash to mend both physically and emotionally. Kara's dad is her rock. When he invites his daughter to come and stay at the old dilapidated mansion that he has just purchased, Kara slowly begins to see the beauty of this old home and its amazing history. The delicate field of wildflowers becomes her strength. The warm breeze in her window make her feel secure as she faces each new day. Kara meets and trusts her new friends, those she will need as time goes forward and an unforeseen tragedy occurs once more. This is the first book of this new series and I am looking forward to seeing how this resilient woman’s journey continues! I loved it!
