The eleventh memoir and latest title from the internationally bestselling author and foster carer Cathy Glass. This book tells the true story of Cathy’s adopted daughter Lucy.Lucy was born to a single mother who had been abused and neglected for most of her own childhood. Right from the beginning Lucy’s mother couldn’t cope, but it wasn’t until Lucy reached eight years old that she was finally taken into permanent foster care.By the time Lucy is brought to live with Cathy she is eleven years old and severely distressed after being moved from one foster home to another. Withdrawn, refusing to eat and three years behind in her schooling, it is thought that the damage Lucy has suffered is irreversible. But Cathy and her two children bond with Lucy quickly, and break through to Lucy in a way no-one else has been able to, finally showing her the loving home she never believed existed. Cathy and Lucy believe they were always destined to be mother and daughter – it just took them a little while to find each other.

Well-told story of Lucy's past and how she came to be adopted into the Glass family. Lots of insight into how the English foster care system works. I have enjoyed the author's other books and I think this might be more interesting to read if you read some of her other works first.

Wow! Cathy Glass does it again. I always wondered about Lucy and how she came to be Cathy's daughter. She seems like a really loveable child. The bond between Lucy and Cathy is very strong and this story proves that. Good for you Lucy!!!

I really appreciated this book. As a former foster mother (now mother to two adoptees), I found very little personal information to help me know with what I might have to deal and tips on being a good foster mother, beside the general information. Cathy's situation was a bit different from mine because her life centered around being a good foster parent full-time. But in this book, I could find many parallels with my own experience. I look forward to reading more of Cathy Glass's books on this subject.

The book captured my attention with the struggles of a child from birth due to a mothers inability to properly raise a child. However, the book became 'wordie' the last half and I found myself skimming pages to find out the ending.

Smiles shyly and walks away quickly w/ a 'dont-look-for-me' vibe about her...black wavy hair, baby blue eyes, small frame; fragile-looking

She looks up and smiles. She was wearing short shorts and a tight tube top that cut of an inch under her ti.ts.
