Overview

Will doesn't need the trouble Meara causes, but maybe he does need her.

For Captain William Talon, aka William 874, there aren't many choices left. Whoever captured him after the war kept him out of the Cyber Husband program and instead turned him into a killing machine--a worse one than most cyborgs.

Will has no idea how many deaths are on his hands nor does he want to know. The few incidents he recalls are bad enough. But now it has come to this... Kyra and Peyton need a better cyborg than their mysterious Creator Omega enemy is making.

Will's processor is dying daily which means the rest of him will die soon as well. An upgrade of the kind Kyra's talking about will either improve his entire existence... or kill him completely. Ironically, Will really doesn't care which. He'd have taken his own life years ago if he could have gotten around the daily brainwashing.

His losses are massive. Like many other cyber soldiers, they include the loss of a family who is convinced he's a prime example of walking evil.

His gains since Peyton rescued him? Really there's only one--just one annoying, endlessly chattering, red-haired troublemaker who's volunteered to be upgraded as well. Now they're cybernetically married, or at least they are in Meara's warped mind.

What's he supposed to do with a female cyborg partner who has no boundaries? ??And what's he supposed to do with the first hope he's felt in years?

I was given an Advanced Review Copy, by the author, in return for a honest review. This is the fifth book in the Cyborgs: Mankind Redefined series. I really love this series, so this book was a great addition. It has vivid writing, fast-paced plot, and characters that really touched the heart. Great romance too. I just enjoy the cyborg world this author has created! - Sarah

When I first starting reading this series and William became part of the story, I didn't think he was salvageable. I'm happy that is not the case and he is on his way to a happier life. And for sure now he is has his hands full keeping up with Meara. I have enjoyed reading this series and the unique characters in each of the stories.

I didn’t even get to the first page of the book and my heart broke for Will, Captain William Talon aka William 874. In a lot of ways, Will’s story reminds me of our veterans and how sometimes they are forgotten and/or never even acknowledged when they return from war. In this story, Will was transformed into a killing machine cyborg and he is being re-made/re-transformed into more of what he was – human. He is teamed up with another “recovering” cyborg named Meara MacDonald; well, truth be told, she assigns herself as his partner. Where Will is serious, introverted, clearly struggling to get some of his humanity back, Meara is a chattering, just-as-deadly cyborg who will not take no for any answer. She is just what Will needs. Meara heads out on a more personal mission and Will shows up to help – please do NOT say rescue – and whoa. The facility they infiltrate exposes the creepiness of humanity but these two make a great team. While they are working together, they discover that they are perfect for one another, if only they don’t strangle the other in the normal course of a day. I loved both their characters and my heart belongs to Will. Great story, action packed, full of cyborg-isms, and crazy-as-loons bad guys. Can’t wait to read what these folks are up to next…

William 874X (Cyborgs: Mankind Redefined Book 5) by Donna McDonald is a game changer for this series. While I thought the focus in the other books was still on the romance between the two main characters, William’s story is true science fiction with romance thrown in. That is not to say it is not a great story, it certainly is but it makes the future seem like a scary place after all. The schemes of the villains are horrifying to say the least. What’s more is that there are organizations that it is difficult to tell whether they are the problem or the solution; seems like the government and politics of today. There is no way, any citizen would want the fiction of this story to become reality. While Meara may not be my favorite of the Cyborg characters, but one has to admire her willingness to do what is right in spite of the odds. Then I found William to be the Cyborg version of a Clint Eastwood characters, so it is virtually impossible not to be drawn to him. No matter whether they are my personal favorites or not, they are indeed unforgettable. So is Aja, and her story is left hanging, major, major cliffhanger. I can live with that IF the next book in the series which is Nero’s and Aja’s story comes really, really soon! The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

McDonald's fifth in the Cyborg series. Characters were likable and the story flowed well. William 874X stands alone somewhat but I did feel like I was missing a bunch on the shadow characters. Reading the series from the first would be the best advise. Two cyborgs with romantic encounters who also lead the book in a syfy adventure. Loved William and Meara who were human but NOT. "A copy of this book was provided by author with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion."

Anothe outstancong story of Cyborgs, this time with Meara and William. It was great having the reappearance of past characters from the previous books. The creative thought process in having a series about Cyborgs, and Dr. Kyra Winters making it her life's work to right the wrong done to the military soliders, helping them to reconnect to their human side, to reacimilate them back into society. All of the books have action, adventure, mystery and, of course, romance. Outstanding ending to a wonderful and we'll written, held my attention from beginning to end...from the good guys to the bad guys, the book is entertaining. The series continues, with I believe Nero 1000 book. Unfortunately, :( will need to wait for the next book.... (this series is worth reading. Now for me, here's to learning how to be patient and wait for the next book.. Enjoy. Happy Reading! *****vrnb******

William 874X by Donna McDonald Cyborgs: Mankind Redefined #5 Captain Will Talon, killing machine extraordinaire, is in need of some fiddling on his inner cyber self to prevent him from degrading further. Meara MacDonald is also in need of some cyber-work-updates. So, after they get their fiddling finished with Will gets a visit from his ex-wife asking him to find…her new husband. While searching for potential locations near the last coordinates he was sent to other female cyborgs are spotted and that puts Meara and her buddy Aja in mission mode to go help said cyborgs get free of their captors. One thing leads to another with action-packed suspense, freeing of some and capture of others, finding the newest location of the villain of this series only to see him escape again, another mission to pursue in the next book AND romance for Will and Meara. These books are fun escapes that make me question the whole issue of evil, science and humanity. What is a human and at what point does it disappear? What inhumanity is one person willing to perpetrate on another and for what reason would they do so? What does it truly mean to be comrades, brothers in arms or just plain care so much for another that you would give up your own life to save theirs? There is much potential for future books in this series and though there is resolution of sorts for Will and Meara I really REALLY want to find out what will happen to Aja, Nero, Phoebe and some of the other characters mentioned. I also REALLY R E A L L Y want the evil scientist “Creator Omega” to get a fitting justice ending at some point in the series ;) Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review. 4 Stars
