I had a chance to read this book last week and was surprised at how riveting and intoxicating I found this book. I typically stick to suspense, legal and action fiction books (Tom Clancy, Dan Brown, etc.) and have never read a romance story; until now. The characters were well defined and the story played out in such a way to keep me always guessing about the next step Cal and Brenna would take. I found the book had the right amount of suspense and romance to keep just about any type of reader engaged to the end. I look forward to reading the next story by Alexa Rowan.

A swoony romance for the professional woman—whether a small business owner (like Brenna) or a lawyer (like Cal). I’m not partial to blonds, but Cal was adorable and sexy. The author has managed to capture that “I need to engross myself in this man” feeling. His being a lawyer was not a superficial “power” job, nor was it “billionaire porn.” He’s a smart young man trying to forge a career, and I like seeing him on the upswing. In fact, there was enough about law to give the novel the authenticity I love without bogging me down. I also loved little details like when Brenna examines a photograph of Cal’s apartment super closely for hints about who he really is through his furniture and housekeeping. I totally would do that, which meant that Brenna felt that much more real to me. There are so many clever tidbits like that in this well written book. Rowan’s writing is clean and crisp. It is no wonder she won the Golden Heart! I look forward to future updates on Cal and Brenna in the rest of the series.
