Could not get past the first two pages of a book that has been very poorly edited if at all.

Contrary to the description this story does NOT take place in Colorado. It takes place in SW Arizona (Rubio City in the book is Yuma, Arizona) and the Imperial Valley of California and is about the first great reclaimation project in the Imperial Valley. The flood at the end of the book actually happened and created California's Salton Sea.

Although this story took awile to get going, it was a rewarding and informative tale about the reclaimation of the 'Hollow of God's hand' desert, and the life of the child who was found there. I highly recomend this book to anyone who wishes for good wholesome reading.

This book was more about reclaiming the desert than it was about the orphaned girl. It was interesting to learn about the trials and tribulations of building homes, utilities and businesses in the west and about the dishonest businessmen who would take everything from the settlers with no regret. Overall it was an interesting book, but I had thought from the overview that it would be more about the life of the girl.
