Overview

Winter Nova by Preston Morgan

For over six years, the Imperial army has achieved uninterrupted success and now controls most of Gildend. Alternating between deceptive diplomacy and brute force, the crafty Empire has decimated the followers of the Light. Only the city of Greydale remains free, and the Imperial army vows to crush it within months.

In search of hope, Greydale's Council rushes to finish rebuilding the Temple. The city sends out the Luminaires, a group of gifted soldiers, to recover the four remaining Crystals--the last pieces of the Temple which are now scattered in the wilderness. During these perilous quests, the soldiers will confront many trials and tribulations. But what will happen if they fail to recover all of the Crystals in time? And do the people really understand what would happen if the Temple is rebuilt?

Winter Nova takes readers on an exciting journey, filled with adventure, love, and revelation. Along the way, the main characters will endure many hardships, yet it is through tragedy and heartbreak that they will discover their true purpose. When the time comes, their choices will play pivotal roles in the explosive conclusion.

Winter Nova is a refreshing fantasy that’s nicely conceived, executed and keeps the reader involved. The characters are developed pleasingly and are especially story appropriate. Author Preston Morgan has done a superb job in filling the pages of this novel with an excellent tale that captures the reader’s attention. This is an adventure of good versus evil as revealed while the inhabitants of Greydale are fighting to save their home. If you are a fan of fantasies or are looking for a good read, this novel is for you.

Reviewed by Tara for Readers' Favorite "Winter Nova" takes the reader on an adventure as the Luminaires and warriors of Greydale rush to find lost crystals to save their city from the Imperial Army. It took a while for me to get into the story because so many concepts and characters are introduced quickly, but the author does a decent job moving the plot along. Gavin the master sage, Myla his guardian, Stefen Glanville chancellor of Greydale, Evan a warrior, and Arwyn Poole are just a few of the many characters introduced to the reader in the first few chapters. Once I sorted them out it became easier to relate to them and their quest. A battle between light and dark, good and evil, this story delivers action and adventure with fun twists for the reader. Although I found some of the dialogue stiff and awkward, especially between Arwyn and her father, overall it was a fun read. I especially appreciated the development of Stefen's character across the storyline, incorporating both positive and negative aspects as he struggles with the darkness himself. In fact, the author provides many of the characters with multifaceted personalities which adds to the story's appeal. It is always fun to discover new voices in the fantasy genre and I was pleasantly surprised with "Winter Nova". This story is creative and fresh with a positive message. If you are looking for something new and different, give this book a try! Favorite Quote: "Without fail, understanding comes in the final season, as everything happens for a special reason."
