I read all 10 books in the series, one right after the other. I could hardly put them down! There were a few typos and grammatical errors per book worth mentioning (constructive criticism) but not enough to knock the quality of the read in my opinion. This author had excellent character development and complex plot development. This series had the perfect blend of suspense, mystery, action, romance and family values. The first book begins with quite a 'bang' and as the plot unravels, in the first book and each book following, the storyline keeps you guessing and speculating ... the ending is never obvious and I like that. This series is about a female detective, ex-FBI profiler Helen Erickson, and her BFF female medical examiner and the male police, FBI, DEA and Homeland Security partners whom she works with and many of whom become 'family'. While each book in the series focuses on a crime or mystery in itself; it is the compilation of all ten books that is the greatest mystery. As each crime or mystery in each of the ten books is solved a piece of the bigger puzzle which is Helen's life is also solved. To say more would ruin the read! Each book was an easy read at about 330 pages with the exception of the last which closer to 450 pages. The first 6 - 7 books were FREE and the last few were only a few dollars each ... I'd read them now because they are easily worth so much more! I look forward to a new series by this author. I love a good female heroine (especially when she has some good looking partners involved!) ... and Helen Erickson was quite the character! Warning: this series does discuss crimes related to homosexuality, drugs, terrorism, prostitution and child slavery; best suited for adult readers.

LS Sygnet is an amazing author.  I discovered that with the first book I read, she reinforces that belief with each subsequent book.   Sometimes it is inconvenient that her writing so truly falls into that can-put-it-down category, but her books are well worth the loss of sleep.  Although the plots are excellent and unpredictable, it is her characters that draw me in and hold me in the palm of their hands.   The battle again the governor rages on as he raises the stakes by having Johnny arrested.  You can imagine how well Helen handles that!  An previous nemesis comes back not only asking for help, but offering more than she can refuse under the circumstances.  Watching these to playing off each other would be worth reading the book for, but all of our old friends are back and so much more is going on.

From the beginning of this series i was hooked and plesed as each book followed building an incredible weave of characters and riviting story- could not put this book down as I was now so intimately engrossed in the characters and the seemingly unending drama that ensues,

Loved the whole series.  I hope this isn't the end of Helen and Johnny's story.

Great read. Read 1-11 in 12 days. The cliff-hangers and the sometimes juvenile behavior of the two main characters (they must be bi-polar) was often very frustrating. I am so grateful to Ms. Sygnet for making book 11 a stopping place. I needed some closure. Now maybe I can get some sleep without the bad dreams. I loved the books, but no one can take that turmoil for very long. I know there are other new books out there, but I simply cannot get on this merry-go-round again. I am done!

References are made in this book that you may not understand unless you read #1-10 first. While the beginning of the series had me obsessed, this one did close a lot of issues but it sort of dragged for me. I have loved this series but unless something new is written, I may not be so eager to continue.

I really like this series of books. This is the latest installment and while it does not seem to be up to the level of the other books, it is still worth reading. This one seems to have a much weaker plot and it keeps harping on Helen's past and her money. There were parts which were down right boring. This one is more politically based rather than murder based. Joe is the one in the hot seat this time. There are a lot of terms and complicated legal actions. I had to get out the dictionary several times to look up terminology. This novel is very noir, which readers have come to expect from Synget. There are a few adult topics, it is not as violent as in the past. A younger group could read this book, but I still consider it as an adult only book. I was a bit dusappointed in this $5.99 book. I found it easy to put down, unlike the others. AD
