On the surface, Wish sounds happier than Disintegration, and the sunny British Invasion hooks of the hit single "Friday I'm in Love" certainly seem to indicate that the record is a brighter affair than its predecessor. Dig a little deeper and the album reveals itself to be just as tortured, and perhaps more despairing. Granted, the sound of the record, with its jangling guitars and simple arrangements, is more immediately accessible than the epic gloom of Disintegration, but nearly every song finds Robert Smith wracked with depression. Unfortunately, the even-handed production makes the record sound very similar, so it is less compelling than it might have been, but there are a handful of gems ("High," "A Letter to Elise," "Wendy Time," "Friday I'm in Love") that make the record worthwhile.

This album exists on so many levels. Simply put, this is the most profound collection of Robert Smith's exquisite poetry put to song. From the soft piano of ''Trust'' to the grinding guitars of ''End'', this album has everything a hardcore Cure fan could possibly desire. This is a must have for any Cure addict.

I absolutely adore the Cure, and I have listened to and own practically every one of their albums, and I totally believe that this is their best album to date. The powerful poetic lyrics set to darkly beautiful and emotional music make this an album that should be a part of every thinking individuals music collection.

I have to disagree with everyone who thinks that Disinigration is a better album than Wish, because in my eyes Wish is the best album to listen to in my whole collection of CD's and that says a lot...there is a lot of themes that are in these songs, and the music that they made on this album cannot be done by anyone else, it just stands alone like a cloud in a clear sky...

The cure have done many great things in there career, right up to the long dreaded break-up. This, perhaps, is one of the greatest albums ever. Friday, Im in love is the number one highlight, of course. The other tracks are just as well written and easy to listen to, but only for someone who knows and appreciates the cure.
