Overview

When times get rough, some people drink, some gamble, some shop. Poets write poems.

Wishes sometimes have consequences is Kevin J. O'Conner's poetic journey through the year 2018. It was a year marked by twists and turns—some anticipated, some not. Kevin channeled the difficulties of the year—most notably the deaths of his father and his cat Trixie—into his poetry.

At the same time, Kevin also began going to bookstores and libraries to write. The result of this change in environment is his series of Bookstore Poems. Included as a separate section of the book, these poems travel a similar path through the year 2018, but from subtly different angles. Some of them even take place in bookstores.

Presented in chronological order, the poems in Wishes sometimes have consequences convey the messiness of life through humor, observation, and reflection. Illustrated by the author.

About the Author

According to his phone's auto-complete function, KEVIN J. O'CONNER is 'a poet who is not sure what he does, but doesn't have any other way to make sure he has a more appropriate experience with his own story.' This is not far from the truth.

What Kevin is sure of is that WISHES SOMETIMES HAVE CONSEQUENCES is his latest collection of poetry. His poems have also appeared in Raven Chronicles, Spindrift, Passionfruit, the Lament for the Dead project, the Clay? VI exhibition at the Kirkland Arts Center, the 2016 and 2017 editions of The Poetry Marathon Anthology, the CDC Poetry Project, and the anthology Voices That Matter.

When Kevin is not writing poetry, he is editing documents from far-flung places, creating sketches on his iPad, and otherwise confounding expectations-often his own. He also regularly participates in several open mics in the Seattle area.
