How does a witch stay safe if a killer can get through her protection spells?

Witches like Ruby and Courtney can take care of themselves. So when Courtney is murdered, Ruby's world crashes to a halt. The only thing keeping her grounded is the return of Courtney's brother, Cooper. He seeks revenge, but Ruby wants to help other witches stay alive. To do that, she'll have to reunite with her old coven's High Priest, who also happens to be her cheating ex-boyfriend.

If that wasn't awkward enough, when the killer gets too close, Cooper temporarily moves into Ruby's place while a police officer tails her every move. Cooper's presence distracts Ruby as they fight their desire against their need to stay safe. Then Courtney begins to haunt Ruby's dreams and secrets are spilled, things from Cooper's past that could get them both killed. The killer continues to stalk Ruby and the more she discovers, the more she fears she won't be able to keep her heart in her chest.

It’s official… Liz Long is now on my short list of authors to watch. Her characters are smart (except when they’re doing something incredibly stupid or dangerous.) The mystery and danger kept me on the edge of my seat and the interactions between the characters as well as the dialogue was realistic and natural. Witch Hearts covered some seriously dark ground, but there were still some bright spots that lightened things up just enough to keep readers from being emotionally buried in the macabre. The premise was pretty gruesome and the fact that one of the victims was close to both Cooper and Ruby kept things on a really personal level. That was taken up a notch when Ruby became an obvious target. I really liked Ruby, but she wasn’t perfect. She had her faults and made some really poor decisions, just like any human… talented witch or not. She did some borderline stupid stuff, but that ‘stuff’ was laced with good intentions. For the most part. Throw in a helpful ghost, a long-time mutual crush and an extremely jealous ex-boyfriend and … yeah, things got intense. There were some serious twists, serious misplaced guilt and more than one mystery begging to be solved. Readers weren’t left hanging at the end though, which is a good thing. However, I wouldn’t object to reading more about these characters. I’m not sure what Liz Long has planned, but I can definitely see Ruby and friends have more than one adventure in their future.

Deliciously morbid and snarky! This is definitely one of those books you can't put down!  There's a serial killer on the loose, but he only targets witches. What does he want from these witches, you may ask? Um, witch hearts. (Thus the title. Keep up with me, people.) Time is running out for Ruby and Cooper. They need to track down this serial killer before Ruby's heart becomes his next token. Deliciously morbid and snarky, 'Witch Hearts' is a fast paced, enjoyable read for the 17+ crowd.

I never thought I'd read a book about witches! But I did, and I loved it! I read this super fast because it's simply so enjoyable. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, is gripping and creepy. It spares you excessive gore and is a lot more realistic because of that! A lot of fun and I'm glad I came across this!

I’m a little late for the spooky time of year, but let’s take a second to admire this cover. I swear on all that is scary, this is by far one of the best covers I’ve ever seen!! Just that image alone gives me chills!!  So on with the review! Witch Hearts by Liz Long – definitely a must read if you are into witches and suspense or mystery! She really did such a terrific job with this story; I was captivated the whole way through!  It starts off with a really spooky scene, a young woman out alone faced with a mysterious man. She knows there is something wrong, and oh-my-god, she is so right. This scene totally set the tone for the book, and there were plenty of “edge of your seat” situations through the rest of the story.  But that girl isn’t our heroine. That would be Ruby. I loved Ruby! She is this very powerful witch whose best girlfriend just got murdered – and she feels like she is next. Ruby is down to Earth and very sharp. I love that she didn’t go around flaunting her powers. I’m not so sure I would have the same self-restraint ha-ha. But it’s not long before she is on the case, she wants to know what happened to Courtney, and she wants to make sure no one else goes through what Courtney suffered.  And that brings us to Cooper, Courtney’s brother. Now he was a character I really enjoyed. He left the area due to being involved in black magic and some crime. Now he is back to mourn his sister. Cooper and Ruby have always had some sparks between them, but they never really acted on them. He’s a man to be reckoned with, protective over Ruby and out for blood where Courtney is concerned.  The slight cramp in her leg made her slow to a walk. Catching her breath, she tried to loosen her left calf muscle when she heard a scuffling noise behind her. She risked a glance back and a large shadow came over her as a hulk of a man stood several feet behind her. He didn’t move to greet her. She opened her mouth to speak, but her gut screamed at her. A boulder sat heavy in her stomach; she needed to get away from him. So then you have the suspense and mystery of it all. Who killed Courtney and the other witches? Why did they kill these women? Who is next??? The killer begins leaving messages for Ruby, and I got goosebumps! Liz Long did a great job of misdirecting suspicion and making me wonder just who did actually do such heinous things.  The characters in this story were all fantastic and very vivid. I even loved the secondary characters like Ruby’s boss, Miranda and her cheating dirt bag exboyfriend, Michael. Ok, I didn’t love him, but you know what I mean! The whole flow of the story was very smooth and I found it to be a quick and enjoyable read for sure. If you are interested in a few scary moments and a great mystery, then I definitely suggest you give Witch Hearts a try!

This book is something of a twisted story. It opens with the brutal murder of our heroine’s best friend, Courtney. Ruby is beside herself with grief when Courtney’s older brother, Cooper arrives to help find the killer and deliver his own revenge. On top of everything else, Ruby has to deal with her pain in the butt ex-boyfriend who keeps trying to insert himself back into her life. While searching for Courtney’s killer, Ruby and Cooper discover that someone is targeting witches and removing their hearts. Courtney wasn’t a random murder, she was targeted. But why her? Cooper and Ruby spend the book trying to figure out who they can trust and what is going on around them. When Ruby becomes a target, things get even more serious. This person is a serious psycho. Cooper and Ruby have an obvious history and the way they are written makes you wish they would hurry up and get it on already. You know they want to, they know they want to, but they are in denial. Working together to solve the crime of who is killing witches definitely brings them closer together and shows the reader just how much they care about each other. I really enjoyed this book, the subject matter was interesting, the twists were unexpected, and the characters were realistic. The climax was outrageous and even though I had vaguely suspected something, it was nothing compared to what really happened. The only thing I didn’t quite love was that the book was more human nature than paranormal if that makes any sense, but that doesn’t take away from the story, it is just my own preferences. I didn’t feel there was quite enough witchcraft type stuff in it. But that is just me, so please don’t let that keep you from reading this book. It is definitely an enjoyable read. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a mildly witchy book that also enjoys a good mystery.

**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review** Ruby's best friend was murdered, but not by your average psycho, but someone who is targeting witches. She finds out that the killer is also taking their hearts so he can perform a ritual to become more powerful, they have to stop him before he has everything he needs.  When her best friend's brother comes back in town, to get revenge for what happened to his sister, all of the feelings that they always had for each other but kept hidden, come to the surface. As they work together, along with her ex Michael and his coven, they start to develop their relationship as well. Though Michael is definitely not happy about that. As Ruby & Cooper start to dig deeper into the murders, Courtney starts to haunt her dreams to help her along, and the killer starts to taunt her as well.  Loved it! Witch Hearts is more like a Paranormal Romance murder mystery or thriller. It was like watching a tv show, I was trying to guess who the killer was the whole time, lol. Every time I thought I had the murdered pegged, someone else would stir my suspicion. It was a page turner and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

Not being a huge fan of witch theme stories, I tend to not read a lot of them. Although there are a couple I have read and loved. Like Karice Bolton's WITCH AVE series and the HOUSE OF NIGHT series. (Although I haven't read the HON series in forever.) But I can happily say that WITCH HEARTS has found a spot as a one I love. Of course, with the author being Liz Long, there was no way I could turn down the chance to read another book by her. I adored GIFTED, even though I continuously called one of the characters by the wrong name throughout my whole review. (Yes, a huge blogger nightmare.) This book was packed to the gills with suspense, murder, and a plot that was absolutely riveting. I couldn't put my nook down from the moment I started this one. I had to know who was doing the killings and why. A few times I thought I had it all figured out only to second guess myself and think it was someone different. It really was a great mystery-murder-supernatural-romance. But be prepared to have some time on your hands to read it. Like I said, it was not one I wanted to put down and I finished it in a few hours time. In need of a story that will have you on the edge of your seat trying to solve numerous murders? Yearning for a bit of romance while trying to solve said crimes? Well here you go. WITCH HEARTS has all that and more. Long has done it again with another supernatural thriller. WITCH HEARTS is a sure thing. Pick it up today and enjoy some great writing while solving a horrific crime.

I received a copy from the author for an honest review. I enjoyed reading Witch Hearts, the editing was well done with just a couple of typos and for an author's second novel was very well written and shows lots of future potential. It has a cast of characters that ranges from the most evil to the sweetest. We have murder, missing cash, romance and a twist at the end all mixed into one and told in a way that kept me turning pages. My favorite character is Cooper who while not a white knight riding to the rescue gives us the tarnished knight that has learned from the past and is steady and supportive. If you enjoy paranormal romantic suspense I would recommend you give Witch Hearts a try.

Ladies and gentlemen, Liz Long has done it again. Almost a year ago, I posted a review of her novel, Gifted: A Donovan Circus Novel, which I absolutely loved. After receiving a request to review Witch Hearts, I couldn't say no. Long delivered in a captivating and dark tale of magic and the consequences of wanting too much power. Witch Hearts is a story of death and fear, love and magic, and the spinning lives that combines them all. At times, my heart skipped a beat (or two) for fear of what the characters would find on the next page. Not only was my heart pounding for most of the novel, I simply couldn't stop reading. It was like an addiction: you know it's bad for you but you can't stop. I couldn't stop until I knew the characters were safe. Liz Long's killer took my heart and held it to the very end. Suspenseful and thrilling, you won't want to put Witch Hearts down. Meet Ruby. Witch, good friend, and employee at Book Nook, she's your typical working woman. That is, until her BFF Courtney is found with her heart missing. Worse, she's not the first. Fearing for herself and the other local witches, Ruby and Courtney's brother Cooper set out to find the killer before he strikes again. To do so requires uncovering Cooper's better-left-forgotten past and facing Ruby's cheating ex-boyfriend who seems to have her best interests at heart (though I personally hated him from the start). Ruby is nothing if not a loyal friend and fighter. She teams up with Cooper to track down Courtney's killer so her friend may rest in peace, even if it means putting herself in danger when the killer decides she's to be his next victim. Her determination and wit made me love her as a protagonist. Instead of leaving town, Ruby stays and works as hard as she can to find this guy, even when her attempts fail and she's forced to keep a low profile. She's lovable, easy to relate to, exactly what this story needs--someone to face fear straight on and not back down. At her side is Cooper, Courtney's smokin' hot brother (I'm sure Ruby's boss, Miranda, would agree with me on that) returned to the city. The chemistry between him and Ruby is immediately noticeable. As soon as he was introduced, I knew something was going to happen (or at least I hoped it would). He's the perfect match for Ruby, being easy to get along, there to comfort her when she needs it, fiercely protective, and already clearly in love. I loved their romance in this book because it seemed so natural. They acted like any human would in the situation, seeking comfort from sorrow and fear, but it wasn't just a side deal out of convenience. There were feelings there that, while some (Ruby) may not have understood what all of it meant quite yet, it worked out so they could establish that deeper connection. After finishing Witch Hearts in one sitting, I'm glad I didn't stop. Anything less than finishing would have left me with a no-sleep night. Seriously, this book is dark and all around creepy. Granted, it's not like that every page but the story gets to you, sneaking up slowly before tossing you around like a toy on the next page. Yet the thrill is exhilarating, like going to see a scary movie in the theaters. You know the bad guy is going to jump out any moment, but when that moment is, you don't know. And the twist! Long completely flipped some of my theories on the killer's identity (and you'll just have to read it to see for yourself). I'm pretty sure I gasped out loud. I can't say much more as I don't want to reveal anything else. Fans of suspense and thriller will love this paranormal mystery gone wild. I don't recommend this book for the faint of heart, as it will send you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. This dark tale is not suitable for a younger audience as some of the scenes, while not overly graphic, may cause nightmares. For the rest of the reader community, I urge you to read Witch Hearts. Just don't let the killer take your heart too.
