The Witchcraft of Salem Village by Shirley Jackson

Stories of magic, superstition, and witchcraft were strictly forbidden in the little town of Salem Village. But a group of young girls ignored those rules, spellbound by the tales told by a woman named Tituba.  When questioned about their activities, the terrified girls set off a whirlwind of controversy as they accused townsperson after townsperson of being witches. Author Shirley Jackson examines in careful detail this horrifying true story of accusations, trials, and executions that shook a community to its foundations.

Since I am traveling to Salem this fall, I purchased this book to get a feel of the Salem witchcraft trials. I found it to be well written and am glad that I purchased it.

I've always loved this era as an example of just how evil organized religion, is. The infection these cults inflict on nonconformists and the weak, helpless, and of course their favorite scape goats, (Women) in particular. Im pretty sure anyone who made it past the fourth grade is aware of the this little peice of dark history. Why do folks who write reviews on these classic stories have to rewrite the book and call it a review? It ruins it for us who'd like to read a fictionional horror version by an authors ideals. Please stop ruining it for the rest of us!

A group of girls who meet at the house of a pastor to hear tales of witchcraft from his slave, Tituba. Trouble and pandamonium strike in the at the climax of the book when the girls claim to have been cursed by a witch! This results in court cases and even hangings! This book is definatly unforgetable. Not only does it have an amazing plot, but it follows a lot of important historical events too!

The Witchcraft of Salem Village is aboout a group of girls who meet in their pastor's house. The pastor has a slave named Tituna ( I forget) and in the middle of the book, the girls become totured by witches. And I don't want to spoil this book for you, those who have it, but in the end, a lot of people are hanged. This book is really great if you live in Massachusetts because that's where the story takes place. Well, I'd reccomend this book for children ages 8 & up.
