About the Author

Stacey Kennedy is an outdoorsy, wine-drinking, nap-loving, animal-cuddling, USA Today bestselling romance author with a chocolate problem. She writes sexy contemporary romance with a dash of suspense and a sprinkle of heart and humor, including titles in her wildly hot Kinky Spurs, Club Sin, and Dirty Little Secrets series. She lives in southwestern Ontario with her family and does most of her writing surrounded by lazy dogs.

Hot irritation burned like a blast of Fire magic through Nexi as her feet connected with the grass below. She snapped her eyes open the split second the raw energy from the portal vanished. Dressed in her typical female guardian gear of a brown leather bra and kilt, with a scabbard across her shoulder that held her sword on her back, she nearly stepped forward but then noticed Haven approaching. Heady amusement nearly stole her irritation, but that emotion didn’t belong to her. It belonged to Haven.

More important, it belonged to their soul-bond.

A deep connection gifted these two witches belonging to the same coven. The link was a sensitive one, allowing for emotions to be shared, making them closer. Nexi often wondered if that’s why the bond existed—it made the ties to a coven that much tighter.

As Nexi caught sight of Haven’s smile, she grumbled, “This is so not funny.”

“Yeah, it kinda is.” The softness in her voice was just so Haven, as was the warmth in her stare. “I told Kyden he was dead for leaving you behind.”

“Dead is an understatement.” Nexi shook her head in pure frustration, gazing around the tree-lined street. When silence greeted her, she added, “You think he’d know better than to piss a woman off who carries a sword and damn well knows how to use it.”

Haven snorted a laugh. “Apparently not.”

Nexi sighed, cooling the irritation inside. Anger would get her nowhere with Kyden, and would only put him on alert. “That caveman needs to get some sense smacked into him.”

Haven gave a leveled look. “He’s just worried about you.”

“I get that—and appreciate it,” Nexi replied with a bit of bite. “But being worried and shielding me completely are two totally different things.”

Sadness reached Haven’s eyes, leaving Nexi wondering if her soul-sister agreed with Kyden. Maybe Haven wanted Nexi away from the danger as well. It’s not that Nexi didn’t understand why Kyden’s macho behavior had increased this past month, because, well, she did.

While Kyden had a typical upbringing in his supernatural life, Nexi’s life had more of a dramatic flair. Twenty-five years ago, the power-hungry vampire, Lazarus, wanted to return Earth to the time when vampires were hunters instead of feeding off bagged blood or willing humans. To do this, he killed Nexi’s birth mother, Tillie, for the power within her blood—a task only obtained by drinking a witch to death. A large portion, or even half, of a witch’s blood wouldn’t have any effect, but to drain a witch to her last breath resulted in a transfer of powers.

When the power wasn’t enough for him to succeed in his takeover of the Council to rule the Otherworld, he went into hiding to avoid being hunted by the Council for his crimes. It was at that time that Nexi’s birth father, Drake, sent her into the Earthworld to live among humans for protection.

Then Lazarus devised his plan to return for Nexi to steal her unique power.

He and his pack of werewolves almost killed Nexi and Kyden in the process.

Yet there was one thing Lazarus never counted on: Nexi.

He certainly didn’t see it coming when she ended his life—since her magic, as both guardian and witch, proved stronger than the vampire jacked up on Tillie’s magic.

She sighed at her thoughts and added to Haven, “I get that Kyden’s . . . sensitive . . . about it all, but he needs to stop protecting me.” Since that night with Lazarus, she hadn’t looked back. Of course, Kyden wasn’t seeing eye-to-eye with her on that point. With her witch magic now centered in soul, and with six months of guardian fighting behind her, she’d never been stronger—something that Kyden was choosing to ignore, and the reason why he hadn’t taken her out on an assignment yet.

Haven placed a comforting hand on Nexi’s arm and a dose of balmy love seeped into the bond. “Perhaps the problem is you’re both just guardians who want to protect what they feel is most important to them.”

4.5 Stars This is a fantastic paranormal, other world type of book. Witches, warlocks, vampires and werewolves are all a part of this amazing story. This is book two in the Magic & Mayhem series. Nexi and Kyden survived book one and they're on to new adventures. Kyden needs to learn that Nexi is fully capable of handling her job as a witch and a guardian. Nexi needs to learn that Kyden doesn't need saving and when she tries it puts her in greater danger. Meeting Magnus, Lord of the Underworld, is a prime example of that greater danger. Secrets are a bad, bad idea Nexi! I love the variety of characters and how they must work together for the greater good. Great story! I can't wait for the next book in this series. Received a copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed is my own.

Having read the first book in this series, I could not wait to dive into this one! Nexi and Kyden are at it, again. This time they face a threat to their relationship – more than one threat. Kyden is head over heels in love with Nexi. All he wants to do is protect her and keep her safe. So, he doesn’t include her in the missions that the Guardians are called upon. That doesn’t sit well with Nexi, who is as feisty as ever now that she has lost all of her family.  When tragedy strikes one of their own, Nexi insists on being part of the mission. But, a Warlock covets her heart and threatens to destroy everything she and Kyden have together. As usual, Stacey Kennedy weaves a tale that I can’t put down! The story telling is on par. The magical world is so fun and unique. The intensity of Kyden and Nexi’s relationship is HOT, HOT, HOT! The author creates such realistic characters, in a magical world, that I feel like I am their friend! I root for them to fight and win against their enemies! This is such an amazing book – something I want to read again and again! I received a complimentary copy for review

I really love supernatural action romance books, so this was right up my alley. I haven't read the first book, so I didn't have a take on the characters yet, but I really liked all of them, so far, and even though I would have liked to read the first book before this one, I still really enjoyed this. Nexi was kick-ass, but I would have liked to see her grow more with her powers, the times she should use them she doesn't, so she is stilted. Also, I hate when characters don't tell their "team" the truth or the whole truth anyway, so that was a negative point for me because I just know that's going to cause problems. All the action scenes were great, and the world building was interesting. One thing I didn't like, and I'm not quite sure why, was the soul sister thing. I liked that this book had a good blend of romance, action, and character building. I also think the sex scenes were well written, and there weren't so many that I became sick of them, sometimes I find myself skimming over sex scenes in books because there are way too many of them, and they go on forever, but I that wasn't a problem with this book. I think Kyden is great, and I really hope Nexi doesn't break his heart, and I'm thinking although Nexi and Kyden say they love each other, they aren't quite making it legit, so I'm hoping their relationship continues to build in the next book. All in all, I love that there many different supernaturals in this series, and I'm really looking forward to continuing the series, and I will definitely read the first book!

3.5 Stars – rounded  The first I have read in this series, I adore Stacey Kennedy’s ability to tell a story and have me engaged early on.  World building, different characters and non-stop action are hallmarks of this title, but I will say that I did find myself at a bit of a disadvantage not having  read the first book.   Since I can only review what I did read, let me say that I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and even in the ‘huh’ moments, I was compelled to know what came next.  Nexi, the heroine was dynamite in a tiny package! A guardian with magical abilities and a cat familiar named Willow, these two were indefatigable, ready to jump in and mix it up with anyone who posed  a threat.  Willow also had a smart mouth and a bit of attitude, wholly cat-like (if one is prone to anthropomorphism) and often very funny.  Nexi, too, had a great bantering ability, although I didn’t always see her softer side coming out in her interactions with Kyden.   Kyden is the hero, a guardian with a sword and the determination and desire to protect Nexi at all costs, he could be fearsome. Until  face to face with Willow.  Obviously he is NOT a cat person, but they do work out their moments.  I felt bad for Kyden through much of  the story: it was apparent he would go to great lengths for Nexi, and that he really wanted her for his own. She just wasn’t as demonstrative or affectionate and their romance felt very one-sided to me.  Action and danger wise – this story was jam packed and loaded: from huge battles to small mysteries and threats, there wasn’t much downtime for our H/h to have some steamy quiet time – but they did manage some of that too, and in typical Kennedy style those moments were steamy.  There are some points where the story does drag, some of the action gets long and conversations about feelings and the relationship between Nexi and Kyden were frustrating due to Nexi’s perseveration, but most of the story flowed well and smoothly forward.  I think that if I had read the first book in this series, would have liked this story much more, but as it stands, this is a good story with  plenty to recommend, but only if you have read and enjoyed Werewolves Be Damned.   I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

**I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review** Kyden had teleported from the Other World to the large Earth. Other World was a planet as small as Vatican City and a population of 800. Nighttime, when humans slept, the Council's Guard hunted killers on Earth. Alazar was an athletic tracker who was also a werewolf. Kyden speaks to Alazar, then Detective Myles, who was a vampire. Each member of the Council's Guard played an important role: werewolves, with the heightened sense of smell, could track killers, vampires could glamour minds, witches could use magic. Nexi, who was a witch and new to her powers, had one flaw. She put others' safety before her own. Lazarus was a vampire who wanted to go back to the old ways. He killed Nexi's mother for the power in her blood, then he decided to return for Nexi. He and his werewolves had almost killed Nexi and Kyden. Nexi was a spirit witch blessed with all four elements. She had mastered air and fire. Nexi was a strong person, just learning of her magical powers. She was loyal and true. She was also kindhearted and basically a sweet person. She loved her friends and deeply loved Kyden. I really loved her character. Kyden was a soldier and all that meant. He loved Nexi with all he had. He was strong and good. He fought to keep humans and his world safe. He also was a thoroughly enjoyable character. The story and plot were excellent. I highly recommend it.

I really didn't find this book very good. I think it was because there ended up being so many other characters pulled in, it really diluted the main story (the romance).

Witches Be Burned, A Magic & Mayhem Novel, Stacey Kennedy Genre:  Paranormal/Fantasy, Romance, Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews I had some issues with book one, but TBH first books in a sereis have a hard job to do with setting up a new world and characters and placing a good story so I like to try the second novel.  Sadly for me I have the same issues here as in book one. Rookie Nexi is still the one with the answers all the while and yet the other Supernaturals have hundreds – probably thousands – of years of experience between them, and then my pet hate number two – she gets new powers and “knows” how to use them instinctively, just at the moment she needs them. I like my heroes/heroines to work for solutions, to use skills and powers we’ve already seen, and it just feels to me like a cop out when there’s an insta solution like this. Still, that’s my view and I’m sure other readers will have no problems with it.  Kyden is a bit of an overprotective man here. I get he’s scared but this is Nexi’s job and she keeps having to remind him of that. she gets scared for him too – that’s natural and they have to work with it – everyone who cares for someone will feel this way, but it can’t get in the way of the job. I wasn’t really feeling the romance between them either – he’s over the top protective one moment, full on sex the next, but there doesn’t seem much build up, normal interaction that has that sensuality I enjoy. you know – the little comments and quips, the tiny connections that make up the day – its all or nothing with these two.  The warlock – he doesn’t come in til close to the end, though I expected we’d see more of him.   The overall plot feels a bit simplistic, and I struggled to stay interested.  I guess its just a series that isn’t working for me, though its well written and will have many for whom it’s perfect. As ever not all books suit all readers, it’d be a dull world if they did.  Stars: Two, just didn’t work for me.  ARC provided by Netgalley and publishers.

The magic in any tale is in the power and imagination of the author’s words. Period. That said, Stacey Kennedy’s got the power to create a magical tale of intrigue, danger and the eternal battle of good vs evil. Yet, there is more in her black hat and she whips out some heated romantic tension that causes her cauldron of creativity to boil and steam! Nexi’s family is gone, she has lost her guardian duty privileges and her mastery of white magic is still shaky. When the murder of a guardian by vampires is committed, she and her mentor/hot guardian/heartthrob are sent to the Earthworld to find the killers, who are brutal, ruthless and vile in their acts of depravity. Is it true their leader is a black witch bent on ending Nexi’s life for revenge? Who is the warlock who has an attraction to Nexi? What is her reaction to him? Will it threaten the relationship forged between Kyden and Nexi? Nexi will be called upon to go beyond what she thinks is possible, is it love that will stand as her ally and inner strength? Witches Be Burned by Stacey Kennedy is a wonderful showcase of her thoughts, ideas and imagination as supernatural creatures are practically coming out of the walls to battle on either the side of good or the side of evil. Will this be the time that ends the constant warring? Nonstop from start to finish, there is high voltage tension and intrigue. Incredible scenes are built and amazing characters play off against the hero and heroine, two equally strong people who are capable of letting go when necessary and trust in each other and their (in Nexi’s case) potential powers. Think you have the stamina for all that happens? If so, you are going to be enthralled from page one. I received an ARC edition from Loveswept in exchange for my honest review.

Witches be Burned is the second book is Stacey Kennedy’s Magic & Mayhem series. Even though I didn’t read the first book, Werewolves Be Damned, I had no problem following the plot and was sucked in right from the start! Anyone who knows me knows that the Fantasy genre isn’t one of my favorites, but these books are more than just Fantasy. Yes, there’s magic. Yes, there are witches. But there are also vampires, werewolves, guardians, territories, councils… and all of these combined make this an amazing Paranormal Romance series. Witches Be Burned picks up 4 months after Werewolves Be Damned ends, and we’re given a prologue which tells about the important things that transpired in WBD, and I'm glad for that because this is a complex world. With the different beings fighting for peace, there’s never a dull moment, and the ‘Good vs. Evil’ power-struggle kept me on the edge of my seat. To say the universe Ms. Kennedy has created is exciting and unique would be putting it mildly. The Magic and Mayhem world is filled with page turning intrigue. There’s also a fantastic supporting cast of characters, and a hero and heroine who are made for each other. Nexi is a strong leading lady and Kyden is an alpha male who loves her enough to let her be who she’s meant to be - though he often reminds her that he’s still the boss - and she loves him enough to let him go on believing it. And their sexual chemistry? Yeah, it burns hot and wild! See? A perfect match! The bottom line… To the point… If you’re like me and not a huge fantasy fan, you really ought to give this series a go. I’m so excited to have read this story, and am looking forward to finding out what’s to come for Nexi and Kyden!

Read from April 28 to 29, 2015 Book Info  EBOOK, 176 pages Expected publication: May 19th 2015 by Loveswept (first published May 5th 2015) ISBN 0553395130 (ISBN13: 9780553395136) series Magic & Mayhem #2 other editions (1) Source:Netgalley EARC Book Buy Links  Amazon  B&N  BOOK SYNOPSIS In Stacey Kennedy’s steamy paranormal romance novel, a rookie guardian sworn to combat the undead risks life and love in a world of violence, witchcraft, and seduction. Nexi Jones has lost her family, she’s been stripped of her guardian duties, and she’s still learning the ins and outs of white magic. At least she has Kyden, the smoldering hot elite guardian who’s been there for her every step of the way. But just as Nexi completes her training, tragedy strikes the Otherworld when a fellow guardian is murdered by a group of rogue vampires. Ready or not, she and Kyden trek into the Earthworld to hunt down a killer—and Nexi alone will be put to the ultimate test. Although Kyden knows that Nexi must fight her own battles, his guardian instincts are raging as he struggles to keep her close. The ruthlessness of these vampires is like nothing he’s ever seen. And at their helm is the Black Witch Astoria, a demon with one burning desire: to shed Nexi’s blood in the name of vengeance. What troubles Kyden even more, though, is the warlock who covets Nexi’s heart. Let the devil do his worst . . . all Kyden can do is love and protect Nexi until his last breath. Includes a special message from the editor, as well as an excerpt from another Loveswept title. My Thoughts The intense passion Kyden and Nexi have for each is off the charts but the clock is ticking as Nexi finds herself to be irresistible to allies and enemies alike, her potent blood a siren song to any vampire she comes in contact with. This becomes an unexpected asset at one pivotal point in she and Kyden's ongoing investigation of the murdered Guardians. However it also paints a target on Nexi that once again almost costs her life, the end result of which nearly drives Kyden beyond despair. I liked the different elements that make up this story, once again though the romance between Kyden and Nexie is a big focus and well worth looking forward to as they struggle to come to terms with each other over boundaries of personal safety. However neither is willing to give less than their best as Guardians and this makes for some conflict that they have a hard time coming to terms with. The development of Nexi’s powers is also a huge focus, and at one point her powers are the main focus as she struggles against temptation that would make her no better than Astoria. The twists that take place prior to the endgame being revealed are action packed, at times heart ache inducing and never ever exactly what is expected. However when the purpose of the deaths perpetrated by the rogue vampires becomes clear the guilt that follows is almost overwhelming for Nexi, innocent people died as a way to manipulate getting her attention and help the Black Witch revenge herself. When it is revealed exactly why it catches Nexi off guard , and even though the reader will probably figure it out it in no way detracts from the suspense that follows. All in all the second book was as well rounded as the first and look forward to continuing series to see where the author takes us to in the next book with Nexie and the rest. This is a sequel to Wolves be Damned, which I didn’t read yet.  It’s a story Of Nexi and Kyden, who are Guardians protecting humans from rogue supernaturals. Kyden is an Elite Guardian and Nexi is a witch and guardian combo. I really enjoyed this book. I found Kyden super sexy, and the love scenes were plenty hot. Kyden loves Nexi and tries to keep her from fighting any battles to protect her, because she never thinks of her safety and if anything happened to her… well. Nexi does not like this at all, so she is always trying to prove herself to Kyden and getting in his face about it.  In this book there are vampire fledglings going rogue and following a black witch named Astoria. Guardians are being killed, by the rogue vamps. Kyden and Nexi go to visit the vampire mistress Thalia, who’s vamps own the fledglings to find out why they are killing. Next they visit Ellery, another vampire mistress and she tells them where to find the fledglings. So a battle plan is drawn up. Nexi also gets a familiar, which is a cute but obnoxious kitten named Willow. I did start rolling my eyes every time Nexi watched Kyden. Described as eyeing her sexy beast of a man, leaning against a wall and looking damn fine doing it, sitting on the bed oozing strength and sensuality. I don’t want to say anymore and spoil it for you. But the end of the book does lead into another story about Nexi and Kyden.  I give this 4 stars. I was given an ARC of this book by NetGalley for an honest opinion.

I wasn't sure what I expected of this book from Stacey. I liked it more and more the farther I read. Stacey still keeps this an adult read and the story line is busy. Nexi is a half and half hybrid. This gives her special blood that everyone wants. She is the girlfriend of Kyden who is Head Guard of the Council. There are truces among most of the groups. Nexi is always upset when Kyden doesn't want her to fight but relents and she does. I like how Stacey put her different supernaturals together. I like paranormal stories and this read was interesting what with traveling through portals here and there. If you like paranormals then give this book a chance! I have this book for an honest review for NetGalley.

*I received this ARC via Netgalley* *This book can be read as a stand alone but your overall reading experience would be enhanced by reading the previous book/books in the series* Witches Be Burned is the second book in Stacey Kennedy’s Magic and Mayhem series. This was an enjoyable continuation of her series. The first quarter of the story dragged a bit as it focused on the retelling of events that took place in the first book of Magic and Mayhem, Werewolves Be Damned. Once the rehash was completed though this novel really took off! Dynamic and action filled, with a feisty heroine and steamy hero I could not turn the pages fast enough. This is a read that will keep you quickly turning the pages until the very end!

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Chelle: *Copy gifted in exchange for an honest review Witches Be Burned was another thrilling installment in Stacey Kennedy's Magic & Mayhem series. I didn't love it quite as much as Werewolves Be Damned, but it was utterly captivating nonetheless.  Having read these before they were re-released, I was very excited to see what Stacey did with the rewrites. I think things turned out beautifully, and I am so excited that new readers get a chance to enjoy her PNR.  Still learning about her birthright, Nexi is coming to terms with her new life and her new relationship with the ever-sexy Kyden. Being a Guardian's mate isn't easy, however, since Kyden's protective instincts are off the chart and she's finding it a bit difficult to do her job.  When another rash of murders happens in the human realm, Nexi is thrown into the world of the vampires once again as she investigates, as well as the darker side of her witch heritage. Oh, and did I mention that she finally discovers that the Underworld exists, meets someone who would desperately love to lure her away from her job and her love, and gets a new, er, um, pet. Definitely not a dull time for Nexi. :)  If you like sexy, action-packed stories, Stacey knows how to do them right. While Witches Be Burned is the second of the series, it stands well on its own, though I would suggest reading from Werewolves Be Damned to get the best grasp of the world building and cast of characters. There are some amazing ones outside of Nexi and Kyden and you don't want to miss out. Not to mention, WBD was an incredible read!  If you like a little mayhem with your magic and romance, then I highly suggest Witches Be Burned and the entire Magic & Mayhem series!
