I love the book. I first read it when I was 12 yrs. old and I loved everything about it and I still do now some 28 yrs. later. The pictures are wonderful as is the writing. It's not about belittling Wicca or any form of witchcraft. It explains the thoughts people had at that time about witchcraft and witches. The dark times aren't completely over with yet for witches. Unfortunately some people still see witches as evil to this day. It gives some spells that do work quite well, especially the love poppet spell. If you read this book thinking it will explain everything about witches, witchcraft, and spells you'll be slightly disappointed. It's still a great book though.

I really like this book. I think the illustrations are great, and I think it gives a nice general overview. The bibliobtaphy is helpful, too.

I did not like this book. The language in it was uncalled for, you can't tell if the author is against wicca or understands it. The pictures & poems are too graphic. She spends too much time focusing on the ways the witches were tortured. She says wicca has nothing to do with the devil but then she has pictures of the devil throughout it. If you want to find a book about wicca this is not it. It focuses on the history of wicca mainly the tortures. We know all about that. We don't have to see them in detail. This is the worst book I have bought. I just hated this book. Please do not buy this book. Save your money for a much better author like silver ravenwolf or Raymond Buckland, Janet Thompson, Gerald gardner, these authors are great for the beginner and they focus on what wicca is truly about not about the dark days.

I hated this book & here are the reasons why first you can't tell if this author is against wicca or understands it. Here is just a sentence from her book : The poor, the disenfranchised, the unlucky, the ignorant light candles and chant things they donot understand. Second the pictures were to me too graphic o.k. you can tell us about the tortures they used but do we have to see them in pictures. Thirdly the language I'm sorry but some of the language was uncalled for and the last reason I hated this book is because she states that withcraft is frequently misrepresented by being confused with satanism but then the author has drawings in the book of the devil and the horned goat all through out it. I think this author wrote too much on the tortures the innocents had to got through.Yes we know they were tortured but we did not have to see the pictures and read the poems in graphic detail to know that. I did learn a few things but they were very few and far between most of this book was a waste of my time and money. I had high hopes for this book.I'm always looking for books on wicca but sadly this book was a waste. Please save your money and buy a better book from a better author.
