A wonderful start to a series With Friends Like These, by Stephanie Williams, is a wonderful start to a series (I’m not sure what the name of the series is because it was not mentioned, even though the cover states Book one.) The premise of the story is that there are a group of special humans and others called Third Moon Children. These children were born under the rare third new moon in a month. The book purports that when two Third Moon Children mate they create an entire new species of Hybrids. With his premise in mind, this book delves into the story of Roxie, an unaware Third Moon Child, Drake and Seth. Drake, a vampire and Seth, a werewolf, believe that Roxie is not only their soul mate, but also the one that will help them save the Western Order, their pack, from extinction. The way Ms. Williams weaves this story was enjoyable. She set up the background of the characters, developed their personalities and then allowed the reader to come to some conclusions before she brought it all home. The secondary characters of Joe, Pam, and Vladimir added a lot of depth to the story. The development of Joe left a few blank parts; like where did he go and why did he keep disappearing, were not fully explained. The relationship between Pam, another Third Moon Child, and Vladimir, the current head of the Western Order, was a definite set up for another story. I encourage all to read this story and cannot wait for the next installment in this currently no-name series. -Reviewed by Selina
