Cassidy is back and the fight continues. The ring that she has treasured all her life is found to be the ring that Rya has sought for years. After their last encounter with the demons, Killian has been left hurt and unable to return to the Clan because he cannot crossover. He has started acting strange and when Cassidy goes to get help he disappears. Tyler turns up saying that Killian showed up at his house saying he wanted to talk to Rya. The alarm bells are going off that something is truly wrong, but getting Killian help will not be easy. The danger is closing in around them and with the numbers of the Clan down, hope is not high but they must try if they wish to succeed at all. Within the Darkest Hollows by D.A. Roach is book two in her The Demon Hunters Series. For me, this book is a step above the first book. There are more action, drama and more characters given than in the first book. I like that the author seems to have hit her stride and that she totally rocks with it in this book. We get to see some of the fightings ourselves instead of just being told that a fight happened and that now others are recovering. There are some surprise elements thrown in that I feel really help make this book even better. I like that the author tells more of Tyler's story in this book as well. We get his backstory, and Cassidy is really put to the test as well. There isn't much that I don't like about this book. I will point out that there are some minor editorial issues of either some misplaced punctuation or a couple of misspelled words, but nothing major. I like that this book is more intense than the first and that it brings a lot of action. I will admit that I get a bit annoyed with Cassidy at one point in the story, but I like that the author gets her to pull through with the help of Killian. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. The author does an exceptional job with this book. There is tons of action and less setting the stage. I like that some more characters are brought in, new and old. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
What can I say about this amazing book? After finishing the last page, I am left desperate to find out what happens next. D.A. Roach has crafted a wonderful sequel to her first novel. Within the Darkest Hollows picks up right where Between the Bleeding Willows ends, with a wounded Killian recovering from the wounds Rya has inflicted on him. However, although the romance between Cassidy and Killian still figures prominently in this next installment of the series, the focus is for the most part on Tyler and his battle to resist the demon inside of him. Without getting into the spoilers of the book, I just have to say that the ending leaves readers intent on knowing what happens next between Tyler and Rya, a relationship that becomes more complicated throughout the entirety of the book. Congratulations, D.A. Roach on yet another awesome novel! You are one of my favorite authors, and I love how you can craft an alternate universe with just a few chapters. Your stories give me a reason to escape the reality of my everyday life in favor of a world with a little more adventure and a little more romance.
While not a huge fan of paranormal these days, or YA really, D.A. Roach keeps pushing my boundaries with her books. In this second book of the Demon Hunter series, she's amped up the action as well as the angst by giving us a little bit of a love triangle. This review may spoil the first book. The book picks up right where we left off, with an injured Killian after the big fight with Rya and Cassidy nursing him back to health. Tyler is still in the clan waiting to get another crack at Rya himself. We haven't heard the last from Rya or her lap dog Jace. She is gearing up for something big, so everybody needs to be at one hundred percent. As I mentioned above, the action and angst is top notch this time around. D.A. Roach didn't hold back with her characters feelings and the turmoil that surrounds them. Like Cassidy and Killian, I wasn't too sure what to make of Tyler when it was all said and done. He quickly turned into one of those characters you hate to love. He did a lot of changing and not all of it for the better. In a way, Cassidy and Killian are too good to thier own detriment. They want to do the right thing by thier friend, however it could turn out to be very, very wrong. Rya isn't one to mess with as we have already learned and now that she is that much closer to finally getting her future mate, nothing is going to stop her. The book is well written from various points of view to keep the story moving along. We see a stronger Cassidy emerge in this second installment, even though it took a bit for her to get there. We also got to know the supporting characters a little bit better this time around and met some new ones along the way. I'm excited to see how things are going to play out in the next book with the shocking ending we got yet again.
