Interesting read and worth the journey two faults the first is that there were a few unnamed people noted in the book Why not named, especially when they screwed up? example: "an assistant regional enforcement director( SEC), who was a competent and well respected lawyer". She dropped the ball on a Madoff investigation but was never named- why not?? everybody else in the book was named ...why not her??? Only other fault is at the end when the author tries to explain what can be done to not have this extensive a fraud occur again. She misses the obvious- HAVE everybody just do their jobs- The SEC staff were just a bunch a incompetent people masquerading as "competent lawyers"- see above....

This book reads like a novel, but it's the absolute truth! The research (check the extensive notes) is incredible. It reads like you are there, experiencing the events, in real time. Even though we know most of the story, you want to read more to find out what happens. And you'll learn lots of new and interesting facts. AND . . . it will give you something personal to think about! It is highly recommended if you want a thrilling read!

Well researched project. There were so many missed opportunities to stop this but people didn't either follow through or were too happy with their returns to ask too many questions. After reading this, I have concluded that the agencies who are supposed to protect investors are a bunch of lazy incompetents who should be in prison cells next to Madoff, and the welathy and sophiscated people who invested with Madoff but did not ask the hard questions because they thought he was 'front-running' deserve what they got. A facsicnating read of what happens when people don't do their jobs and others close their eyes to what's right in front of them.

A compelling look into the world of white-collar crminal Bernie Madoff, who with his massive Ponzi scheme, almost singlehandedly brought financial crimes to the forefront after generally being given less attention than violent or drug crimes in society. -- from R. Barri Flowers, Criminologist and Bestselling Author of THE SEX SLAVE MURDERS, DARK STREETS OF WHITECHAPEL, and MURDERS IN THE UNITED STATES: Crimes, Killers and Victims of the Twentieth Century
