Overview

The Wolf at the Door (Sean Dillon Series #17) by Jack Higgins, Michael Page

On Long Island, a trusted operative for the President nudges his boat up to a pier, when a man materializes out of the rain and shoots him. In London, General Charles Ferguson, adviser to the Prime Minister, approaches his car on a side street, when there is a flash, and the car explodes. In New York, a former British soldier, who is also a bit more than that, takes a short walk in Central Park to stretch his legs, when a man comes up fast behind him, a pistol in his hand.
And that is only the beginning. Someone is targeting the members of the elite intelligence unit known as “the Prime Minister’s private army” and all those who work with them, and whoever is doing it has a lot of resources at his command. Sean Dillon has an idea of who it may be, an old nemesis who has clearly gotten tired of their interference in his schemes. But proving it is going to be a difficult task. And surviving it the hardest task of all. . . .

good book read it in a day. could not put it down. starts off in the present. then jumps to the past. then back to the present. looks like we might be hearing more from the new person in the book. i liked it and so will you if you like higgins.

This was a return to the fast paced international story telling style that I have always enjoyed from Higgins. Story explode into action with multiple starting points in the US, England & Russia. It used the unique look back method to introduce a new character the Dillion series, one I expect to see in future adventures. Rich development in both the present story and the history of new character, Daniel Holley. Looking forward to the next books in this series and can see multiple paths of engagement with Holley.

I started to read this book hopping for a good store, just as I have been accustome to in the passed. But, is it just me or has the mellow drama gotten worse? It is like it is not the same writer as before. Has someone taken over Jack Higgins’ name? This is not the same author that wrote “The Eagle has Landed” or “Drink with the Devil” and “Thunder Bay”. It’s time to move on from this author. The writings are not what they were. God bless all in this room.

Ho-hum story peopled by ho-hum characters. It was a chore to even finish the book. The "main character," Sean Dillon, was just a bit player. No more Dillon for me!!!!!!!
