Overview

Wolf Moon by Charles de Lint

His name when he was human was Kern.  Now he is the most feared of beings: a werewolf.  When the change first came upon him, his parents drove him away with silver daggers.  Later, he sought human companionship, but he could not hide the truth for long.  And so he kept running until he ran headlong into the deadliest pursuer of all-a harper bent on stealing his life away.  By chance Kern was able to find refuge at the Inn of the Yellow Tinker, and the woman he was destined to love.  But can he risk both human and harper vengeance to keep her?

I actually read this book when the Ace edition came out. Recently I came across De Lint's EYES LIKE LEAVES and after reading the introduction, I decided I wanted to read this book again. I loved it as much the second time as the first. It is a great twist on the usual werewolf story, and the characters are well played. De Lint has always been one of my favorite rereads, and I suspect I will visit this one again.

Although this book is found in the Young Adult section, de Lint is a great fantasy writer for all ages and this is true of his book, Wolf Moon. While some fantasy books by other writers are mixed in with Romance, this book has enough of romance, action and lots of fantasy to keep anyone entertained. I truly enjoyed reading this book.

This was an amazing novel. All of De Lints works are top notch. As for the person who said that this novel was pointless, you probably have not yet passed fifth grade, yes there are some 'big' words, this is an adult novel and for the most part, adults can read. If you enjoyed Wolf Moon, you will also like The Blue Girl, also by De Lint.

A great story of a hunted werewolf trying to gain friends and fit in with humans after being rejected by both wolves and humans.

I walked by this book at least three different days before considering it, because I didn't expect much from it. But I was impressed. If you enjoyed his 'Riddle of the Wren,' which I favor some over this, you'll more likely that not enjoy this one as well. Werewolf Kern comes across a place in a setting not unlike where 'Riddle' begins. Like in 'Riddle,' there's a nice girl with some change in her life waiting for her, which comes with lonely Kern and the decitful harper. Kern hasn't had a place to trust or feel at home with since before his change came. And that harper, as you'll find, a person from myth, wants nothing more than to make sure all Kern comes to care for are hurt along the way of hurting Kern, if successing, his final suffering.
