Russell’s heartwarming second Legend Tripping paranormal (after Stumptown Spirits) is infused with sexy sizzle, raucous adventure, and lively characters. There is a magnetic attraction when Trent Pielmeyer and Christophe Clavret meet by chance in present-day Portland, Ore. Disheartened Trent just wants to get his life back on track after being held captive in supernatural prison; he wants nothing more to do with the mystical. Suave Christophe, a werewolf, is struggling to abide by his father’s archaic succession traditions, and he senses a kindred spirit in Trent. Their sexy banter leads to a romp in the sheets that promises much more. Trent is forthcoming with the demons he is facing and is pleased by Christophe’s understanding nature. Christophe is trying to figure out the best time to tell Trent he’s a werewolf; in the meantime, he’s repressing his overdue need to transition to his wolf form. Plans go awry, traitors are treacherous, and now Christophe’s life is in grave danger, but Trent and a crowd of quirky side characters are there to save the day. Readers of the first book will be able to dive right into this story; others may take a little while to get up to speed. (Oct.)
