Overview

The Wolf's Hour by Robert R. McCammon

Master spy, Nazi hunter—and werewolf on the prowl—in occupied Paris: A classic of dark fantasy from a Bram Stoker Award—winning author.

Allied Intelligence has been warned: A Nazi strategy designed to thwart the D-Day invasion is underway. A Russian émigré turned operative for the British Secret Service, Michael Gallatin has been brought out of retirement as a personal courier. His mission: Parachute into Nazi-occupied France, search out the informant under close watch by the Gestapo, and recover the vital information necessary to subvert the mysterious Nazi plan called Iron Fist.

Fearlessly devoted to the challenge, Gallatin is the one agent uniquely qualified to meet it—he’s a werewolf.

Now, as shifting as the shadows on the dangerous streets of Paris, a master spy is on the scent of unimaginable evil. But with the Normandy landings only hours away, it’s going to be a race against time. For Gallatin, caught in the dark heart of the Third Reich’s twisted death machine, there is only one way to succeed. He must unleash his own internal demons and redefine the meaning of the horror of war.

From the award-winning author of Swan Song and Boy’s Life, this is a “powerful novel [that] fuses WWII espionage thriller and dark fantasy. Richly detailed, intricately plotted, fast-paced historical suspense is enhanced by McCammon’s unique take on the werewolf myth” (Publishers Weekly).

I bought this book when I was in high school to bring along on a hunting trip with my father. I wore my copy out. Twice in one week and several chapters over and over. I found another copy at a thrift store last year and bought it because it is so rare to find a hard copy anywhere. Look on ebay. They are going for anywhere up to several hundred hundred dollars. Now I have a digital copy to read any time. I have read other books by Robert McCammon. None have appealed to me like this one. However, the Matthew Corbett series is excellent. Speaks the Nightbird reads smoothly. McCammon has an amazing ability to paint images of his characters in the readers' minds. This trait makes character development a joy throughout the read. Read this one. Then move on to his other books. McCammon never fails to leave the reader hungry for more.

This novel is easily one of, if not the best werewolf story in literature. So attached to the characters, I hated for the book to end. Sequel released in 2011!

If you love stories about werewolves, Nazi's, WWII, espionage and love, this is the book for you. It combines the story of how the character became a werewolf and his life with his pack and his life as an alli spy. I could not put the book down. The characters were fully developed and the story captivating. I even went back and reread the last several chapters of the book because it had so captured my imagination. I did not want the story to end. I want more of this character and hear that Rober R McCammon is working on a sequel of short stories. I will definitely buy that book when it comes out. I strongly recommend this book.

I've never read a book twice. I read so many books I often can't remember the title of some of them, and I can't always remember what they're about. I read this book a long time ago, and I've never forgotten who wrote it, or what it's about. I would definitely read this one again if I could put my hands on it. I must have borrowed this book because I keep every book I read, and I can't find it anywhere. If I could find it in any store I would definitely rebuy it. I've read a few of Robert McCammon's other books and it's a shame that he hasn't written anything for a long time. To sum it all up, I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading, regardless of the type of books they usually read.

Robert McCammon has done a brilliant job. The book glued me to my seat the first time i read it back in 97. And now after reading it again i want it in my collection. Seriously the best novel i've ever read, a real inspiration to an up and coming writer like myself.

There is no need to call James Bond, Michael Gallatin can take the mission and still respectfully charm the ladies. This book is an excellent read for everyone, not restricted to sci-fi, action adventure, or romance. This is the second time i have read this book, and i am thinking of looking at it again.

Dudes just read the book, its pretty damn good, werewolf+humans=lots of dead germans and a very very interesting story. It shows the magnificent story of him becoming a werewolf to the life of a spy/werewolf in world war 2

This is a great fast paced read. Robert McCammon has taken the werewolf lore to a new level allowing his creation to change at will, even only an arm if need be. Just fantastic. Pick up this book and see for yourself.

I have read this book so many times that I need a bookcover to keep it together. The main charater Micheal Gallatin is well rounded and completly believable. The combination of James Bond and animalism in outstanding, with an excellent job at realism. A great for werewolf fans. Wish there was a sequal though because it definantly leaves you wanting to go on another adventure with Micheal and Chesna.

This is my 3rd copy of The Wolf's Hour. I've worn out 2 paperbacks and finally bought the Nook book so that I won't have to worry about replacing it. Robert McCammon write exciting stories. Never a wasted word, never a boring passage. This story of a werewolf's vengeance during the war is a premier story and obviously one of my top ten favorite books. Highly recommended.
