About the Author

Barbara Taylor Bradford was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, and was a reporter for the Yorkshire Evening Post at age sixteen. By the age of twenty, she had become both an editor and a columnist on London’s Fleet Street. In 1979 she wrote her first novel, A Woman of Substance. Since then she has published thirty more works of fiction. Many have been made into television miniseries and movies of the week. Her novels have sold more than 63 million copies in thirty-nine languages worldwide. She lives in New York City.

I thought the book was very breath taking. I came across the book in school when I was in the 9th grade. Now I am 18 (a gaduate) I just had to buy the book.

I just found this to be an interesting different type of book. It seemed to be an eye opener as to how the German people lived after the war.. I just enjoyed the entire book. Thank you for such great reading

Maxim is a wonderful character. He has gone through so mcu in his life before the age of 10. Yet, with all that life has thrown at him, he overcomes them and becomes a fine young amn and a great older man. This book takes you through the life of Maxim and what a life he has. I loved this book and highly recommend it.
