Will Women Save the World?
At the Vancouver Peace Summit in September 2009, the Dalai Lama announced, "The world will be saved by the Western woman." Shearer was struck by the profound implications of this statement and immediately felt drawn to explore the subject. Shearer joins essays from modern-day Olympians, Billboard-topping musicians, visionary media professionals, artists, authors, and more with profiles of historical women, such as Mother Teresa, Harriet Tubman, and the founder of Junior League, who each saved the world in their own ways.

“Perhaps this is the calling of women today – to bring to light the magnificence that is woman.” The first step to bringing feminine light to the world is reading this book. Have you ever seen a collection of really good TED Talks? You know the kind where it makes you stop and evaluate your whole life? Well, this is kind of the print version of that. There are countless women in this book giving their very own heartwarming, endearing, and thought-provoking messages. This is not an anti-men or pro-feminist book, but is merely a call to action to enjoy the beauty of the feminine. The feminine energy is a light unto the world. I feel as if I’ve embarked on a sacred spiritual journey through the sacred feminine and have found inspiration in my own life through reading this book. I cannot help but feel that I have been changed, for the better. I am not the same person that I was when I first started the book. I have been so inspired by the stories and lives of the women represented in this book, that I want to fashion my life into one of equal majesty. What is so surreal to imagine, is how easily the stories of these women can be our own stories. Many of them were not born into privilege or had an easy road to their success. The stories represented in this book are the collective conciousness of the female experience. I would definitely recommend this book as a wonderful gift for those who are trying to figure out where they fit in this big and expansive world.
Since the beginning of time women have empowered each other, passed down wisdom and lifted each other up. Thank you Caroline Shearer for reminding us that WOMEN make a difference. This book delivers perspectives from numerous women, in various arenas offering how women from the past and women today from all platforms contibute.
I got my copy of Women Will Save The World this week, and couldn't have been more excited after reading a pre-book-release interview with the author. With all the noise questioning women's place in society, women's autonomy, and women's impact being made in the current political climate, it is a double-lung-full breath of fresh air to see a book celebrating the achievements and potential of everyday women be published. The book is divided into traits that different women have embodied through their work, whether it's in the creative field, the trailblazing path, or those who've made positive changes in the world through nurturing others. Under each trait, women of historical acclaim are profiled, followed by essays written by women living and working in the world today. My favorite is by Alicia Vargo, who not only founded a lingerie company that caters to women who've undergone surgery for breast cancer, but also founded a house for her employees to stay in rent-free if they were struggling to get on their feet financially. I hope this book gets read by both women and men, and is given to daughters who may be struggling, as is typical of young girls, to figure out what paths are available to them in life. (The answer: every path).
Pretty red cover is eye-catching and cover art is really cool. I tore through the whole book in the short expanse of one weekend. There wasn’t one story I read I was not impressed by. It was more like a “wow” reaction each time. It was my first time reading a book from this genre, but I can honestly say I found it refreshing and empowering. I really liked how it was divided into categories based on feminine traits, and the mantras that the author provides at the back of each section stuck with me long after I finished reading and digesting them. Definitely a good pick for ladies but I also hope some men will pick it up!
