Billy Lamont's new book of poetry is a searing paradox of the safety of a church pew intermeshed with the screaming passion of the protester on the street. It's like nothing that's ever been done before. Literate yet humble, and direct so anyone can understand it. Billy manages to combine every element of virtue like a multivitamin of the soul, so you get the ones that you may have forgotten to take in these modern times. At times shocking in the way he calls on the modern gods of art while combining this with his life of faith, it cannot be denied that he is trying to live in the world while not being of it.
With over 200 pages of poetry, "Words Ripped ..." is an excellent collection of Lamont's work, pulled from the past few decades, including his latest work, never before published. Billy writes and performs poetry from the heart, with a mix of aesthetics very much reflective of his engaged and caring self: there's activism, christian faith, punk, love, loss, and the everyman. A favorite moment from The Gallery of Light: "dance to the rhythm of thought color clouds you were loved before you were born flower faces your soul is one of a kind angel kisses your life is precious love bath learn to love yourself & then you will be able to love others see with the eyes of angels!"
