The World Bank is proud to present the 2nd edition of World Development Indicators 1998 (WDI). WDI has become an invaluable source to those in the private sector who analyze business opportunites in developing countries and emerging markets. It is also an indispensable source of information in the development, academic, business, and NGO communities. This year, World Development Indicators 1998 retains its basic thematic presentation with six sections covering: World View, People, Environment, Economy, States and Markets, and Global Links. New and exciting additions to the book include: development assistance committee's goals in World View; unemployment data in People; Genuine savings in Environment; Relative prices in PPP terms in Economy; Military expenditures and trade in arms in States and Markets; and new data on average tariffs in Global Links.
