Bernhard Storch was born in Bochnia, Poland. Sent to flee the oncoming German invasion, he ended up in a Soviet labor camp. He subsequently enlisted in a Polish division that fought its way from the USSR through Poland to Berlin itself. Having survived more than two years of combat, he married, moved to the U.S., and built a life there. Retired, today he lives in Nyack, New York where he is active in veterans’ groups and Holocaust memorial organizations. He speaks frequently to student and community groups.
